He has taught us not only to work in academic fields but also to live in this mixed- up worldg his valuable lessons in self-respect have helped us to handle many situations. So, Mr. Sullivan, we, the class of 1982 not only dedicate our edition of the Arrow to you, but also thank you for your help and support over the years. This is one of those moments. You will shortly be bombarded with advice - ad- vice on What to do for a living, When to make the big move, Where to place your priorities, Whom to marry, and How to bring it all together into something resembling meaning and satisfaction. We would now relinquish all of our rights to advise youg after twelve years of schooling, that too should come to an end. Instead, we would return to the childhood days of magical fairytales and make a wish for you, a very simple wish and yet profound - as you will find most simple things to be: May we wish that you, as an individual unlike any other, become all that you are capable of being? Sincerely, I 3 ii 7 Q f 1' ww if kg X 'gl f W lfliflufl ecrefa riea Diana Morton Judy Anderson principu ti. A ,fi gf. , 3.41 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE To the Class of 1982: You are about to embark on the great adventure of adult life. As you leave SACS for the last time as a student, I hope you'll take the time to reflect upon what has transpired over the last twelve years or so. You have gone from infancy to young adulthood. Along the way there have been triumph and frustration, joy and sorrow, success and failure. Many people have been influen- tial in your growth - parents, teachers, clergy, and friends. All have wanted to help ease the path of maturity in their own way. Unlimited opportunities await each of you. How you take advantage of those opportunities will be up to you and you alone. I hope those decisions you will be making will be beneficial to you in every way. The growth pains and frustrations youive wrestled with will serve you well as you face the world entirely on your own. On behalf of the entire staff, I wish you the very best in whatever you do. May your triumphs be abundant as you march through life. MR. Although June 17th will be a time for good-bye, We must never allow the old friendships to die. Greig Holman Rolinda Kappel Jaw gnforcemenf program I attended a most educating and interesting program during the spring of 1981. The seminar took place in Waterville at the Criminal Justice Academy. The pro- gram lasted for three days fMay 27-291 and proved to be very promising. It included Junior and Senior girls and boys from all over the State of Maine. I had the chance to observe and take part in State Police training, which included classroom presentation as well as practical application of law enforcement methods and technology. The American Legion of Oakfield sponsored me dur- ing this program. I would like to express my deep gratitude to them. They made it possible for me to enrich my knowledge. Ruthanne Locke W aine .gclrofara may We were extremely pleased to be representatives at Maine's Scholars Day. It was well represented and well organized. It was a good experience and we were glad we Ruthanne Locke Greig Holman and Rolinda Kappel Boys' State is held on the U.M.O. Campus for one week. After arriving at the campus, we were assigned rooms and t- shirts. We were on different political parties - Rusty being a Federalist and Kenny a Nationalist. During the week that we spent at Boys' State, it was filled with lectures, meetings, sports, and social activities. We spent many hours a day learn- ing about government procedures, laws, and party caucuses. We held elections for various offices, such as Senators and Representatives. We dealt with problems of government and government agencies with our solutions being presented to ap- pointed committees. We experienced a real-life government environmentg elec- tions, debates, disagreements, and resolutions. The knowledge we gained is invaluable and the people and friends we made are unforgettable. Their performances include playing at a pep rally, an assembly, and a variety show. The band also put on a very successful Christmas Concert and has played at every home varsity basketball game. Their music at the basketball games boosted the morale of the spectators. The members of the band deserve a big round of ap- plause for their hard work and dedication. This year the chorus, directed by Miss Bryant, has approximately fif- teen members. They participated in the Christmas Concert and in the Spring Concert. There were three chorus members, Greig Holman, Ruthy Locke, and Angela Porter, who made the All-Aroostook Choral Festival that was held in Caribou. Greig was also selected to the All- State Music Festival that was held at UMO. 53 guaineas ls lirics-vim Fingers Hi! ich Key s Q- Sitting: Christine More, Mrs. McLaughlin, Advisor, Denise McNally. Last year's team finished third in the league and was not hit too heavily by graduating seniors. The 1981-82 success story will depend on the veterans, their leadership and con- sistency on the field will set a standard for the underclassmen to follow. Expected to play a big role this year will be five seniors, Heather Larlee, Kellie James, Yvette Sholler, Carla McGary, and Ruthy Locke, who will anchor this year's team, along with some strong play from some talented underclassmen. This year will also mark the first year for the girls on the new softball field here at Southern Aroostook. The girls will now have a place to call home Best of luck to the Lady Warriors in 1982! For three years now l have coach- ed the Southern Aroostook girls volleyball team. The high school volleyball teams in Aroostook Coun- ty do not exchange games with other schools. Instead they have two, one- day tournaments. The first one is the Northeastern Maine League and is held at Katahdin High School. Various schools in the area par- ticipate at Katahdin. The second one is the Aroostook League and is usually held at Washburn District High School. Competitions are always tough. A game lasts only eight minutes. There are three games in a match. A team plays long as they keep winning. It is double eliminationg also, ifyou lose two mat- ches you are eliminated from the competition. Two years ago, we took third place. Last year, even though we played very well, we didn't place very high. I have really enjoyed working with the volleyball team and I believe that our competition will be tough again next year. The boys volleyball team of 1981 was very much improved. Coming in third place in the Mars Hill tourna- ment and placing fourth in Katahdin, the team is expected to be as good if not better this year. Losing only three people, the team is still very strong and this season should be quite productive. Led this year by seniors, Greig Holman, Danny Beers, Kenny Hopple and Mike D'Angelo, we are looking ahead to a championship season. Band A PROFESSIONAL VIEWPOINT In the Sl Arrow I spoke of several problems which I perceived as being drawbacks on our Athletic Program. Though some gray areas exist tfew are close to perfectj this year: to date, has brought some positive features which, hopefully, will contribute to a better program, I would like to address the following: 1. Administration Supt. Wilbur has been instrumental in pro- viding more funding and support. He has been consistant in his approach with the program. 2. The addition of coaches Tom Sheehan fH.S. Cross Coun- tryj, Tim Moody tH.S. Soccerj, Mike Wright and Stan Hartin fH.S. Boys Basketballj, and Marvin Collier Ur. H.S. Basketball and Baseballj has given a sense of purpose and stability, creating an atmosphere were growth, learning, and experience can take place. 3. Though numbers may sometimes be limited, most students, if they chose to participate, seem to appreciate the im- provements that have come and are coming about. Our Athletic Programs are ours. We are Purple and White, not Red, Black, White, Blue, Green, etc. We are the Warriors, not the Bears, Foxes, Hawks, Cougars, Panthers, etc. I think that we tend to teach our young that we are not Better'l - but we are as Good.
