3n iHemorium Tragedy, unusual in a community made up largely of young people, came to the campus of Southern Junior College through the accidental death by drowning of James C. Stewart, a student at the College. The accident occurred about eleven o clock on the morning of August 5, 1940. James had gone bathing in Lake Chicamauga and had suddenly stepped off into a deep hole. Funeral arrangements were in doubt for many hours, but in the evening it became known that his body was to be sent during the early hours of the morning to his home in Natchez, Mississippi. At a time approach- ing midnight, a large group of students journeyed to the funeral chapel in Chattanooga and held a memorial service, Elder J. S. James officiating, for the deceased.
