His love and zeal for God is evident not only in the classroom but also in his everyday activities. He has taught us all to put a firm foundation of God’s Word under our dreams and then they will become realities. It is with great love and admiration that we dedicate the 1986 Torch to Reverend David R. Bundrick. Colossians 3:16, 17 (NAS) “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” Spiritually In 1935, Southeastern College was started by a group of men and women who had a dream of preparing young men and women for the ministry of God. Every since that time, Southeastern has been Building on that dream. One of the major elements of any Christian’s dream is their spiritual walk. Here at Southeastern we are given many = opportunities to build on that aspect of our dreams = through chapel services, dorm prayers, and individual de- y votions. Above: Junior Attendants — Kaye Gilliland and Tammy McKnight Below: Cee Cee Hubel, Sophomore Attendant and Darla Valinzisi, Freshman Attendant 16 Statement Of Faith We believe the Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative word of God. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His Virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal future return to this earth in power and glory to rule over the nations. We believe that the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ. We believe that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation. We believe that the redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer. We believe that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit according to Acts 2:4, is given to believers who ask for it. We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and lost, one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnation. Board Of Directors Alabama: Dr. Vaudie V. Lambert, Rev. Nelson E. This year’s welcome center had something for everyone. Many area churches had booths for the students who are looking for “a church home away from home.” The FLAME, the TORCH, ROTC, the Drama Club and many other clubs had booths set up to recruit new members. The welcome center was held in the cafeteria which was decorated like a Hawaiian paradise. It began at noon and lasted till around seven. There was a number of events that were available for everyone’s enjoyment. These events included such things as a dunking booth, a volleyball game, a “me- chanical” bull, a hay ride, and several skits. There was also lots of great eating and singing. Everyone that went seemed to have had a wonderful time. ‘ Tote ye as yr Sadie Hawkins Pg, OREO a SS 1985 Christmas Party This year the SGA decided to break tradition and make the 1985 Christmas “banquet” a “party.” The party was held November 22 with the dress code being casual winter apparel. The party began with picture taking, eating, and playing games. Entertainment was provided by the group “Freedom.” Brother Cadenhead provided the devotions and the party ended with a candle light worship service to praise God for sending us His Son. The party was not only a lot of fun but also truly inspirational. 83 Junior-Senior Banquet Each year the Junior Class honors the Senior Class by hosting a banquet for the Seniors. The Juniors go all out to make this an extra special event. This past year the banquet was held on Friday, March 15 at the La Fantanas in Clearwater. Dinner started at 7:30 p.m. and the menu included chicken cordon bleu, green beans, dutchess potatoes, and choco- late mousse. Steve Archer was the guest en- tertainer. 84 Graduation 1985 The one thing we all dream about from our first day at Southeastern is graduation. This dream came true for the Class of 1985 on April 12, 1985 in the Lake- land Civic Center. The degrees were presented by President James L. Hennesy. Guest speakers for the commencement service were Clay Manos, Senior Class speaker, and Reverend Edward Blount, Super - intendent of the South Carolina District. 88 Spiritual guidance and leadership is essential to the growth of any Christian life. Southeastern students and faculty are given this guidance and leadership everyday in chapel services. Although at times it may feel like we are going out of necessity, each service is special and has something for every- one. Special emphasis services held during the year include Women’s Week, Missions Week, and Spiritual Emphasis Week. This year we were also blessed to have a three day Founder's Week in conjunction with the college's fiftieth anniversary celebration. athered ...”’ Missions Week “To Know Him ... To Follow Him” was not only the SGA theme for this year, but it was also the theme for Missions Week. The speakers for this year’s convention were Richard Neubauer, David Neighbors and Richard Buyers. Along with extended chapel services, there were a number of seminars held during the afternoon by different missionaries and teachers. Also, there was a “con- vention Center” set up in the gym with booths set up containing information on the many areas of ministry available to Christians today. One : ee AVAILABUE y TO THOSE Student Government Association To Know Him ... To Follow Him EASTERN COLLEGE The 1985-86 Student Government Association chose as its theme “To Know Him ... To Follow Him.” Through the many activities and special services sponsored by the SGA it has tried to impart this idea into the heart and minds of the student body. The SGA is responsible for various types of activities such as the Welcome Center and the Valentine Banquet. The SGA is also responsible for chapel services one day a week and also for Friday night chapel services. Lighthouse Productions presents the message of Jesus through drama to a world that is craving for not only entertainment but also for some promise of a future. The Production Company is divided into three smaller groups: the Resident Company, the Reportory Company, and SOS. SOS (Save Our Streets) is a new addition to the drama department. SOS is made up of students who go out into the streets of our cities to minister through skits and pantomime. Light House Productions produces their own plays during the year and presents them in many churches throughout the area as well as in chapel services. The group offers a chance for development in the area of drama and also participation in an effective, practical ministry. As one can see by the pictures on these two pages, the group uses a variety of ways to witness for the Lord and to also have some fun. The world is our harvest field and whether our missions work is at home or abroad, we still have the responsibility to touch lives the the Gospel of Christ. The Missions Board did their part to encourage people to become active in some kind of missions work this year. They handled such endeavors as the missions convention and sending representatives to the “GO” conference. They worked hard to make the dream of missions come true. The World Christian Fellowship gathered every Tuesday to fellowship with one another and to pray for the needs of people everywhere. The prayer cells would pray for the missionary endeavours of their assigned countries. The dream of missions is one that is steadily being built upon. This year the band program was a step closer to that dream. There were many changes along the way, primarily the introduction of the new director, Bro. Tindall. Dr. Tindall brought with him quality experience which enabled him to direct the concert band to new heights. The concert band provided excellent musical programs of various styles in chapels and night concerts which were enjoyed by both faculty and students alike. Dr. Tindall also introduced to Southeastern College the pep band. The pep band played at basketball games to boost school spirit and to cheer the Crusaders on to victory. Though the music got harder and the practices more fervent and de- manding, Southeastern’s instrumentalist were determined to do their best. 1985 Concert Band Flute: Alto Saxophone: Trumpet: Greg Clinton Billy Beasley Greg Chapman Janice Stewart David Bost Michael Cole Carolyn Volle Scott Maniz Barbara Johnson Clarinet: Tenor Saxophone: Eric Lowdermilk Jay Gibilisco Djuna Rochester Steven McCartt Theresa Robbins Horn: Terry Rodgers Alto Clarinet: Randy Martin Trombone: Rhonda Wise Brooks McElhenny Jonathan Cooper Shannon Mims Mark Harden Band Officers: Theresa Robbins, librarian; Shannon Mims, Vice-president; Terry Rodgers, president. Calvin listens closely to the music waiting for his intro Calvin and Christie Lyrla 114 _.. And Classic Sounds Southeastern College’s music department presented a variety of different styles from contemporary to classical, and thus proved that God could be up-lifted in both styles. Each of the talented groups and chorale presented both styles for the glory of God. Contemporary Christian was the style of music presented by the promo- tional groups “Rusty and Leisa” and ‘Calvin and Christie.” Both of these young couples are a husband and wife team that would travel on weekends and minister in local churches. While both did promotional work for the school, ministering for the Lord was always the first priority as they touched many lives with the Gospel of Christ. The Chorale presented a classical and Negro-spiritual style of music. Chorale was directed by Dr. Danny Tindall. Chorale members worked hard on their difficult music and presented excellent concerts in chapel. Chorale proved that even the oldest classical music could still effectively display the glory of God. Both groups of singers gave of their time to do their best for Christ. Though the music at times got rough, they were determined to present only excellence in their performances; the mark of excellence that has been the dream of Southeastern. “Open Wide” SOUTHEASTERN - COLLEGE Chorale: Cindy-Leigh Albury, Chris Bullock, Dorothy Gulbronson, Debi Mills, Candy Smith, Kim Stout, Cofi Anspaugh, Chris Edwards, Vickie LaTorre, Windy Miller, Rhonda Ross, Robin Stone, Jennifer Wiliams, Joe Cox, Keith Frix, Steve Gulbronson, Brooks McElhenny, Harold Moates, Billy Ballew, Ty Cameron, Jay Gibilisco, Le Grand Joye, Joel 115 Nunley | Choir 1985 | Sopranos: Cindy Albury, Donna Bullock, Sonya Cobb, Sandra Garrett, Michelle Howell, Laura Manning, Debi Mills, Lisa Owens, Kimberly Stout, Candace Smith, Donna Timmerman, Cindy Williams, Trina Young, Norma Ziegler, Terrie Larkin | Altos: Christine Edwards, Joyce Grant, Janine Hewitt, Janice Hubbard, Cecilia Hueble, Jennifer Jones, Vicki LaTorre, Wendy Miller, Tina Mulkey, Kin Sloan, Janice Stewart, Melodie Watkins, Joyce Weigle, Vicki White, Mennifer Williams, Nadine Bridgman, Rhonda Ross Tenors: David Acosta, Billy Balleu, Joe Cox, David Elliot, David Harris, Brooks McElhenny, Ibrahim Rivera, Stephen White, Joe Wilson, Jonathan Wilson, Scott Lingerfelt, Jeff Doughty Basses: Ty Cameron, Kenny Chapman, Jay Gilbilisco, Todd Howell, Johnny Jernigan, Bob Jeter, Legrande Joye, Harold Moates, Steve Morrow, Jerry Murphy, Joel Nunley, Terr y Rodgers, Mark Wright, Tommy Morabito For many students, choir was a breath of fresh air Choir Section Leaders: Terry Rodgers (bass), Cecilia Hueble (alto), Joe Cox (tenor) 116 Building On A Dream In Harmony poe “Memorize!” “No Music!” “Watch the rhythm, please!’ These words will echo in choir members’ minds for a very long time. The road to seeing a dream accomplished must sometimes have curves and turns, and the biggest curve for choir this year was the introduction of Rev. Skip Redd as the new choir director. Everyone was nervous on the first day of choir practice, but Brother Redd quickly assured them that he was just as nervous as they were. Though many choir members were unsure about the changes, Brother Redd quickly won the respect of the choir -members. Brother Redd always encouraged choir to strive only for excellence in ministering for the Lord. His sharp directoral skills were augmented by the excellent piano skills of Dr. Linda Ligate who faithfully attended choir practices and was always ready to help. Choir started off the year with a performance at Cypress Cathedral. Through their other performances their excellence was noted and appreciated by vast audiences. There were many changes involved this year, but choir maintained their composure and had another successful year of ministery. Most importantly, their hearts were open to God and they were willing to be in one accord with Brother Redd and Dr. Ligate to allow God to bless and touch lives through them. 118 Praise 1985: Chelly Burges, Terrie Larkin, Vicki White: sopranos; Janice Hubbard, Christie Kona, Kim Sumner: altos; David Elliot, Danny Tayman: tenors; Steve Odum, Shawn Sweeney: basses; Keith Frix, Jay Gibilisco, Kevin Green, Mark Harden, Terr Cameron, Walter Nelson: guitars; Tito Burges: drums; Skip Redd: director. Ministering like this is n’t as easy as it looks, but under the anointing, these talented singers boldly deliver their message in song. “Boy, when is this day going to be over?” Skip Redd (right) puts many long hours into the group. y Rodger: wind instruments; Ty _.. And New Songs. Southeastern’s touring groups were kept busy this year, ministering to various walks of life in the many churches of the southeastern states. The members of these groups would sacrifice many of their weekends and their Thanksgiving break, as well as several hours during the week put into practice for their music ministry; however, they always felt repaid when they saw God move in a mighty way in the services. New Song was really NEW Song in that the group consisted of all new members. Never-the-less, they still maintained their excellent caliber of musicianship. New Song, while their director, Rev. Alan Armstrong, was away for doctoral studies, was under the very capable direction of Dr. Danny Tindall, a new addition to the Southeastern faculty. New Song ministered to people of various ages with a variety of styles of music ranging from Contemporary Christian to Southern Gospel. The members had a zeal for the Lord and were excited about seeing God at work through the music. Praise was a new addition to Southeastern’s groups. Under the direction of Rev. Skip Redd, another new faculty member, they consisted of singers and a live band. Praise presented a laid-back contemporary style that was enjoyed by their vast audiences. Praise feverently ministered for the cause of Christ, believing that God would anoint them and touch lives for His glory. One of the highlights of the year was both groups performing “We Will Stand” in chapel, examplifying their unified desire to minister for God. Both of the groups under the anointing of God presented excellent ministry, and with their own unique vision, they succeeded in touching hearts and lives. Though the demands of the groups were great, the members of New Song and Praise depended on the Lord for their strength, and never failed to minister in song for the Lord. Practice makes perfect, or so Billy Ballew (a freshman) and Brooks McElhenny (a sophomore) think. New Song 1985: Cindy-Leigh Albury, Dorothy Gulbronson, Kim Stout; sopranos; Cofi Anspaugh, Robin Stone; altos; Joe Cox, Steve Gulbronson, Brooks McElhenny; tenors; Billy Ballew, Jimmy Raley; basses, Dr. Danny Tindall, director. ha 119 Sy sincioah sceeraR iit aly Rbe aot AES Miracle ministered on many occasions in chapel ie Building On A Dream Through Miracles Miracle, a six- member vocal ensemble, continued to build on the dream of excellence. Miracle is a student directed group that would sacrifice their weekends and part of their summers to minister for God. Miracle presented a mellow contempo- rary Christian style of music that touched the hearts of old and young people with the Gospel of Christ. Miracle was open to the Lord and saw God work in people’s lives. These young musicians continually made the dream of ministry become a reality. ‘ % 122 Shoot The Hoop ...
