The Hawks had the most successful season of the school ' s history by finishing second in the Mayflower League, and rated 15th in the Division IV, State Standings. It was a year of surprises - with four senior, the team exceeded everybody ' s expectations. Next year should even be better because of the 36 returning players from this year ' s squad. Ed Nelson was the leading scorer, gaining 106 points and rolling up 1,207 yards rushing. Captain Paul Gurley came into his own and displayed poise and leadership at the quarterback position. Tom Connolly, also Captain, along with Mike Miranda, held down the tackle spots which enabled the backs like Nelson, Brodie, Birk and company to run for big yardage. The surprise of the year was senior Paul Pushee, who came out for the first time and was a bear on defense. A very versatile athlete, Paul could be placed anywhere on offense and defense. The Team was one which showed great spirit and next year ' s team has decided to dedicate their season to the seniors.
