OAP OPERAS “Another World — All My Children — General Hospital” can be heard floating through the halls as the co-eds tune in for their favorite soap. Even professors have been known to fix their lunch hours in order to catch a particularly interesting show. Students are notorious for ar- ranging class schedules in order to keep up with Luke and Laura or Mac and Rachel or even Lisa, Tom, Dick and Harry. T YPING 28 Typing — the bane of existence for any number of students — provides the basis for a good solid education. The student with typing skills found it easier to get work and better grades. Secretaries typed out tests and class schedules. Each day many reams of paper were typed into reports, class handouts and letters. The tap-tap-tap of a student typewriter blended with other tapping typewriters during the week before finals as students prepared for projects.

Relaxation Playing pool or just hanging around — relaxation took many forms around campus. Students could drop in the game room or coffee shop for visiting friends. They could swim laps in the pool or just daydream under the magnolias. Quiet walks with friends around the campus let many students find peace and relax- ation. It gave them time to calm down after a hectic day or to walk off a heavy meal at the cafeteria. A quiet walk gave some couples time to find out about each other. 57

Uniforms Uniforms abound at Southeastern — they can be band or flag corps, ROTC, security, or even club jackets. Several groups required that uni- forms be worn to all university functions while other groups required them only at formal func- tions. Video mania struck in the form of Tron, Pac- Man, Galaga and others. Students stuck endless rolls of quarters in the boobbox for a few minutes of playing pleasure. VIDEO MANIA 29
