HALFTIME HONORS . . . A pause for halftime brought with it a time for honors. Amid the colors and ex- citement of the band and halftime perfor- mances, two outstanding men were recog- nized for their achievements and excel- lence in a number of areas. Take a look . . . Surprise was evident on Dr. Don Par- ham’s face as his name was an- nounced. Recognized as an outstanding athlete and coach, Dr. Par- ham’s number was retired, only the third from Southeastern to receive such honored treatment. An embrace for President Hibbs and a smile reflect Dr. Parham’s feelings regarding the honor, a surprising and sen- timental presentation for many. Buddy Spencer was recognized as the Southeastern Okla- homa State University Distinguished Alumni for 1982 for his contributions during his college years and his continuing contributions to Southeastern.

.. . TO CONFRONTATIONS A day of confrontation describes the Saturday game against Northwestern. From start to finish, the game was exciting, anxious and finally the cli- max — victory! A closer look at the big game (counterclockwise, from top) . .. Coach “Red” Rutherford sets up a play with players (linebacker Kevin Hime in the foreground). John Walker seems to be trapped for a crushing tackle in his attempt to gain some yardage. Nathan- iel Brown prepares to hand off to Daniel Veazey as Danny Odom and John Walker rush in. Well into the game, some tense mo- ments just spur determination as Shan Kirtley, Don Mullenix and Nathaniel Brown await the hike. Pressing on, Darryl Coats leaves a trailing teammate blocking as Butch Bond looks on.

... VICTORIOUS ENDING! A victorious ending to Homecoming Week made the festivities complete. The climax to a fun-filled week of excitement, Southeastern’s 21-14 win over Northwest- ern was the crowning moment for all. It fulfilled the hopes and dreams of many, rewarding hard work and determination. Later, the effects of exhilaration would fade, but oh, that final moment — moment of sweet victory! Look at the final moments . . . In the dwindling moments of the game, Nathaniel Brown (left) passes the ball as Daniel Veazey helps out to the side. Coach Ron Newsome scrutinizes the action on the field (middle, left) as the game winds down. A look of ecstasy on his face, Coach “Red” Rutherford (middle, right) shakes hands all around. “We’re number one!” seems to be the consensus of Savages Troy Barner and Barry Herrera (bottom, left) as the victory is com- pleted. An embrace and a smile are all Dee Dee Mangrum needs (bottom, right) to express how she feels about husband Dusty and the victory. 13
