• • • A CLOSER LOOK AT Homecoming — a time for the past and present, it seems to bring out the spirit of fun, fes- tivity and competition in everyone. For some, it may also bring back memories of times past when Southeastern was “home” to them also. Whatever the feeling, an air of gaiety prevails. An anticipation of good times grows, leading to a climax on the football field on Saturday night... The festivities began with the coronation of the Homecoming Queen, Karen Wilson. A dance was held in conjunction with the coronation and as the pictures suggest, a good time was had by all escorts, candidates and others alike. 6

It glance through an open classroom window at the flags and remember some kind deed done by Mr. Bowers or Dr. Wade. A Dedication: The students and faculty of Southeastern dedicate this book to the memories of James Bowers and Frank Wade. Frank Wade 1938-1982 Dr. Frank Wade was known as a giant among men — not only in stature, but mainly in heart. He loved life and lived it to its fullest — enjoying the company of his students and his family. He gave much of his time to the improvement of relations for international students and often would be found helping a lonely student far from home. He was devoted to his family. He would smile when anyone mentioned their names and say, “I’m proud of them.” He was going to his father who was very ill when Dr. Wade died. Although he is no longer with us, a spark of Dr. Wade remains in the lives of his friends who value their memories of this good man. 5

HOMECOMING WEEK 16AM| mm I ,r r4 r4t- 1 ■ In the following Saturday’s traditional Homecoming Parade, THE SOUTHEASTERN won the float competi- tion with an entry representing John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath. The Baptist Student Union captured second place in the float competition with an entry representing the oil industry in Oklahoma and also expressing a desire to “Drill the Rangers (Northwestern)”.
