Bloomer Sullivan. The Man. The Coach. The Legend. Many a high school athlete grew up with the ideals set by “Coach”. Sullivan was the athletic director and basketball coach for 27 years at Southeastern. During his career, he had 13 Oklaho- ma Conference Championships, 1959 Hall of Fame honors, Oklahoma Coach of the Year twice, 1957 NAIA Coach of the Year and had teams in the NAIA Tournament finals in 1942, 1955, 1957 and 1962. In 27 years, his teams won 650 games and lost 222. He trained two time Olympic coach Warren Womble, Olympic players Jerry Shipp and Kirby Minter, seven All Americans and 35 All Conference players. But Sullivan was more than one of the winningest coaches — he was a teacher and he loved it. He not only trained fine athletes, but fine minds as well. He took students with little or no athletic ability and taught them to believe in themselves. Although the familiar “Hey, Coach Sullivan” will be heard no more, memories of Bloomer Sullivan will live on in the hearts of his students and his athletes. ii
