PA t MAM • DIIICTOl OP ATILITICI 10 Bloomer Sullivan. The Man. The Coach. The Legend. Many a high school athlete grew up with the ideals set by “Coach”. Sullivan was the athletic director and basketball coach for 27 years at Southeastern. During his career, he had 13 Oklaho- ma Conference Championships, 1959 Hall of Fame honors, Oklahoma Coach of the Year twice, 1957 NAIA Coach of the Year and had teams in the NAIA Tournament finals in 1942, 1955, 1957 and 1962. In 27 years, his teams won 650 games and lost 222. He trained two time Olympic coach Warren Womble, Olympic players Jerry Shipp and Kirby Minter, seven All Americans and 35 All Conference players. But Sullivan was more than one of the winningest coaches — he was a teacher and he loved it. He not only trained fine athletes, but fine minds as well. He took students with little or no athletic ability and taught them to believe in themselves. Although the familiar “Hey, Coach Sullivan” will be heard no more, memories of Bloomer Sullivan will live on in the hearts of his students and his athletes. ii 14 What is it like to be a part of Southeastern? It’s getting involved as a student or teacher; it’s classes where we begin to comprehend what the real world is like; it’s wondering ... “where do we go from here.” 15 16 Checking the mail, getting news from home, and an attempt at balancing your checkbook is something enough to make the typical college student just a little bit homesick. 17 18 College begins to show us that not everyone is going to agree with our ideas, yet our own opinions begin to change as we grow a little wiser each day. 19 20 fj WWm ■ W: • wmm 22 We play hard, we use our minds and our muscles. We’re young and we’re eager to learn. 23 24 Sometimes it’s nice to get away from a noisy roommate or a too-small room and take advantage of a pretty day — to study or just ponder about, life in general. 25 College becomes a place where new relationships begin and sometimes continue to grow for the rest of our lives. 27 - :?■ %% ' sb V‘ f y 28 We may not know where we’re going and it may make us mad sometimes, but we’re gonna get there______no matter what! 29 ADMINISTRATION An Administrative Story Unfolds.... Believe it or not, instructors at Southeastern are people too! They like to do everyday normal things (like eat, sleep, play and — yes — even act silly. Sometimes students find it hard to realize that the reason these “people” are up here is for them — the student body. Often students think instructors are mean, tough and, at times, absolutely unfeeling and cold hearted. But they’re only helping to prepare students for the cruel world outside of college. These administrators are dedicated and strive to help mold and develop the eager minds of the future. These people are special people, and each and every one of them help to make Southeastern the one place that students will never forget. Getting his hair fixed before pictures by Vicki Hudson (1) is Dan Lounsberry. Both teachers are coaches in the health, physical education and recreation department. A popular watering hole (2) for instructors is the faculty lounge. At almost any time of the day, a few instructors can be found hoisting a mug of java. Opposite page: David Mize and Kemal Kutait (1) come out for a little Halloween fun during the annual college book store sale. 32 33 Governor, Regents Head Facult] Control of Southeastern Oklahoma State University and all universities and colleges in the state lies in the hands of two major parties — the people of Oklahoma, headed by Governor George Nigh, and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. President Hibbs came in 1969 and since has maintained what he calls an open-door policy with students. For administrative policy-making, advise- ment or counseling, the door to his office or even his home is always open. It is good to know that he is concerned about each student as well as his many administrative duties. President of SSU is (1) Leon Hibbs. Intramurals can become a serious sport or just something to do on a slow evening. Either way, intramurals are for everyone, an exhilerating way to have fun! 173 174 On The Sidelines And In The Bleachers........ The Fans. The spirit of the team. Fighting just as much when we lose or exploding with pride when we win. We’re right in there with ya team, ’cuz we luv ya! 175 CLASSES A Classes Story.... People — that’s what it takes to make up a class. People who take notes, get confused, ask questions and study. Without people, there would be no need for college, no need to learn and probably no need for life, because living is learning and that is what college is for — people willing to become what life has intended for them to become. I , Studying in the library (1) is Abu Sama. Classes (2) often j seem a little dull, but these Oriental students seem happy about their classes. PDP-11 (3) keeps instructors and students busy. i I 178 179 180 Graduates Mahmud K. Abusaab Amman, Jordan, Bus. Adm. Carlos Arango Medellin, Colombia, Adm. Stu.
