Beginning its eleventh year on SSU's home campus, the aviation department's future flight plans look good. Bill Edwards assumed the duties as chirman of aviation on the retirement of A. M. Augie” Moore. (1) Helicopters are sometimes used to get students used to a new type of flying after mastering the light planes. (2) A good pilot usually washes down his plane after each flight. In order for the students to learn about sketching and paint- ing nature, many art department instructors took their classes out to observe the working aspect of nature - the different colors in a tree trunk, a magnolia in bloom, or a piece of rope. Page 18: (1) Relaxing under a tree on an outdoor class day makes the after- noon more enjoyable. (2) Figure drawing is, at best, difficult, but these women are studying their subject closely for even the most minute details. Page 19: (1) Macrame is not a new craft, but it's one of the fastest growing ones. Students in arts and crafts get a good lesson in this. (2) Being outdoors with a sketchpad often inspires some of the most beautiful paintings.
