Compara- tively, SSC unfolds its branches of knowledge and guidance to its students. The rows of magnolia line the pathways from the moment a student enters the campus until he steps forward into the unknown future. Publisher Shai hose eegceiebins Dr. Allen E. Shearer Southeastern President Dr. Allen E. Shearer has served as presi- dent of Southeastern State College since July, 1952. During these 15 years he has been a leader and builder of far-sighted projects which have enabled Southeastern to progress and flourish. Timely projects such as the professional aviation program, which is one of the two in the United States, are examples of Dr. Shear- ers concern for the present as well as the future. Mrs. Shearer, the first lady of the.campus, shows concern and enthusiasm toward her hus- band’s work and is always there to give the extra word of encouragement. President Shearer served-as the Dean of the College for 14 years before assuming the post of president. If he can find time for a break in his studies he will probably find some activity to fill his leisure time ... Pep rallies, led by the cheerleaders, are frequent, and loyal Savage fans are always ready to cheer the team on to victory. If it is not a pep rally it is a friendship fire, an election, or some other activity. SSC’s bands and chorale have proved themselves valuable assets to the college in both entertainment and publicity. The speech department has frequent pro- ductions which | have Pen popular on cam- pus. Creativity is the key ed in the art de- partment where ideas” and individual expres- sions thrive. : These fine arts programs combine to make Southeastern a ‘campus, where students can learn to ppprecific 2 and nigh, the world about - on “s % é ee Rete PRAee ELLE RPE ELI I LT One way of developing well-rounded stu- dents is to supply a variety of activities. These activities aid in giving students various ex- periences which are secondary in value only to academic studies. Disc Jockey club sponsors a campus dance every Monday night which serves as an en- joyable way to release excess energy and meet new friends. Members of Boule service organization spend much of their time promoting good will projects for the college. Participation in Intramural sport activities, by young men and women help balance the weight of their academic schedule. The library seems to be the most active building on campus and each student makes use of its facilities. All college students seem to be able to work dating into their busy schedules. Coach Sullivan’s roundballers consisted of seniors and sophomores who played hard but lacked the over-all ex- perience necessary to win the extremely tough Oklahoma Col- legiate Conference Crown. Standouts for the Savage cagers were Tommy McVay, guard; Darryl Roberts, forward; Joe Brown, guard; Jim Christanelli, center, and Donnie Keck, forward. The team will sport experienced men at most positions and should have good depth. 1967 Speed and power hitting should be the trade- mark of the SSC hardballers. Southpaw slugger, Richard Lumbert, prepares top-notch season in baseball. Dr. Don Parham, Savage coach, has 11 players re- turning from last year’s squad which posted an 18-7 record. Savage hopes for a good season are high. Three starting infielders return along with pitcher Richard Rountree (6-0), outfielder Richard Lumbert, and NAIA All-American catcher Dennis Traham. Returning infielders include Mike Metheny, Jerald Price, and Trent Baulch. Jerry Hulme was a part-time starter as was outfielder Fred Nickles. Track 1967 The return of several experienced speedsters and added depth make the 67 SSC thinclads tough competitors in the Oklahoma Collegiate Conference. Under the direction of coach Bob .
