I At no time do students need guidance and counseling more than in college. Thcse are the crucial years in which we decide what we are going to be 'when we grow upf The administration and faculty help us to decide and then provide the training and preparation necessary. PUBLICATIONS . . . Student publications are vital to any college. The newspaper carries any impoxtant happening on campus, gives the time and place of upcoming events, and gives an over all picture of college life. The yearbook is to serve as a reminder in the future. Years from now, you'll use your '60 SAVAGE to recall good times and great people. ORGANIZATIONS , . . Organizations is one of the broadest sections of this book. The organizations of a campus can make or break it. They are exercises in getting along with people and co- operating for a common purpose. GREEKS . . . I The six Greek organizations on campus servd a necessary and real need in the lives of their members. They are defined as social groups and they not only provide an active social life on campus but help to prepare us for life in society later on, SPOTLIGHT . . . ' In the spotlight of the campus are certain ones who stand out above the rest of the crowd, perhaps because they're prettier, or more active in cainpus life. This section of rett irls, favorites, ueens and Whos Who, is devoted to them. . P Y 8 Cl t CAMPUS . . . Here is where you see a real cross-section of college life. Informal shots of the things we do, the people we do them with, and the places where we do them. ATHLETICS . . . No campus is complete without its share of athletic heroes. But more important than heroes are the ones who play on the team, the ones who make the 'Savages' really savage opponents. CLASSES . . . . g 'Q Here is the heart of our yearbook, for these people are Southeastern. In the class section no gridiron ace, nor beauty queen, nor campus brain can outshine even the most unknown person because each is an important part of the whole campus. BUILDINGS . . r ' ' The Ad building, library, gym, these are places we see every day. Here is where we study, gossip, think, and play. We'll remember these buildings as long as we remember Southeastern. ADVERTISING . . . U Business men and women of Durant are exceptionally'nice to Southeastern students in many ways. One way is the support they lend to our yearbook. , I I ,- allege' Thes? No matter how many of you contribute effort to this book, no matter how hard Rodney and Pe and the others on the staff work, when 1 comes down to the day when you begin to find fault wi the book and discover the two million, five dred thousand mistakes we're bound to make, I'm the one everyone is going to suggest tar-and feathering. But don't get me wrong. I wouldn't trade jobs with a one of you. If you're wondering why I have doodled foot prints all over this letter, I'll tell you. t 1 my own inspired way of introducing the theme of the book to you. Throughout the book you're goi to see the feet that make these prints. They are everybody's feet in general and your feet in par ticular. They are the feet that will lead the world of tomorrow. Where these feet go they do is up to you but rememb ,'going to be followin- 'responsibil' and and What er--the world s g you. It's a frightening ity but one that we have to face up to we shall face up to it. l1'e're not really the 'heat' generation, we're a generation that's going places. These feet are going to stand in Congress, the United Nations, at Cape Canavera and on the moon! The time has come to-tell the skeptics and giessimists to 'hide and watc' going places 111 And spea' ' got 0 n.' It means different things to different people . . . here we're not only talking about the frenzy of a cheerleader at a big game . . . we're talking about the Spirit that lives everyday in everything we do on campus . . . the class spirit that drives us to stay up all night the week before Homecoming in hopes of beating out the other classes . . . the school spirit that wells up and makes us want to fight if somebody makes a dig at Southeastern . . . the personal spirit that drives us to col- lege to accomplish something, to better ourselves through education . . . this is the spirit that makes 'a college a campus where We want to live rather than one we merely tolerate . . . this is the spirit of Southeastern. --1--qs-. -. ..,. q...1....-....-..f,,.....- . ,...- ,, ,. - x. ,,m,5,,,' , HIM rm- y sum iam ,-ff , X,-ff M Y 4 4,,, W , f xy, Av ' -nv ' . Her attendants were Margaret Fincher, sophomore from Hugo, and Phyllis Burgess, Antlers junior. Imaginative floats depicting fifty years of progress were entered in the Saturday morning parade. The 1959 Savage football team's 0-9 record left them at the bottom of the ladder in Oklahoma Collegiate stand- ings, but those who watched the Savages play this year agree that they were a much better team than their record showed. Although their record was anything but impressive, lack of experience was their main drawback. The team showed much potential strength and gave some good teams a scare during the season. Their worst beating all season came at the hands of Northwestern 42-13, and several better teams couldn't do as well. The conference champions, Langston, rang up an im- pressive victory 39-7, but runner-up Central was lucky to get off with a 26-13 win. The Savages dropped close ones to Austin College, 13-Og Northeastern 27-13, Southwestern 21-20, Arkansas Tech, 13-75 and East Central, 20-7. The students of SSC expect the freshman standouts of this year to carry the Savages to a better than average season in 1960. WW!
