Dr. Walter J. Cass is such a person. pulse of fate, Dr. Cass bonded with this institution long before it dreamed the ti- -?,. an English professor in 1948 at the Bradford-Durfee Institute of Technology AAAAAAAA in uniting that school with the New Bedford Institute of Technology and then in evolve into SMU. During his 40 years of service as a professor of English 'recently, of education, he has dedicated himself to imparting not only subject 1 ,E ma3E'?5a HM - ssence of a liberal arts education. We, along with generations of students, have delighted learned from his wisdom, and found support in his compassion. In his view, all of his pupils have been prizes. He has cherished and nurtured our individuality and stretched our minds with the varied richness of his knowledge and interests. We will not forgethim, this Renaissance man who taught us day by day and year by year the real definitions of teacher, mentor, and friend, one cannot forget what is rooted in the heart. And Walter Cass, to whom we dedicate this book, is rooted and evergreen in ours.
