X is an.. Sv l nf g Frederick IVI. Blanchette Andrew J Blaszczak JIIVI CANAVAN Wow! Where did the time go? It seems like such a short time ago that I was stumbling through freshman registration and now l'm an alumnus. The class of '75 is history! And what a hectic four years! Watergate, the energy crisis, the recession, the ascednancy of an imbecile to the White House, and the real end of the Vietnam war. And whatever happened to Joe DriscoII77 We've laughed a lot and cried alittle, too, in our four years here at Concrete College. Some of us may have even learned something in the process las unlikely as it may seeml. Seriously, though, SIVIU may be in fornsome hard times in the near future. Regardless of what the governor promises, cutbacks in funds for education is very close to becoming a reality. I don't mean just in 1975. Only God could clear up in one year the fiscal mess Massachusetts is in land judging from history, He s a Republican anywavl In times like now it has been traditional to take the cleaver to areas of human services and public higher education looks pretty fat to the wielders of that cleaver They ll take consider- ably more than the proverbial pound of flesh and won't be bothered by the blood either So it s up to us I guess Whether or not we like to admit it we do owe something to this institution and at this point I think we can best begin to repay SIVIU bv being at the forefront of the school s battle for autonomy I know it sounds like I m beating a dead horse but this one has a knack for resurrection And as long as UIVlass Amherst is as influential on Beacon Hill as it has been, SIVIU is threatened Also it appears very likely that the UlVIass Harbor Campus will be getting the Kennedy Library and you can bet that the state will be funnel- ing millions into that project some of which could be 'Bruce F. Yes, this is a yearbook interview. lVlitch: lVIitch: Well, you're going to write a foolish thing unless you give people a topic to talk about. Jim: You think so? lVlitch: Yes really. People won't normally just speak about anything unless you give them a topic to speak about...it helps. Jim: I see. lVlitch: I remember John tried this thing last year. He'd say to people- Talk about anything - well you need something to talk about, then people will talk If you don't, they're not going to. III LEE SOAFIES I started school in l97l and have been here for 4 years. l'll be graduating in June of this year. l'm a mother and it was quite difficult for me to start school because of my financial situation. The College Now program provided me with financial assistance and academic counseling. During my 4 years here at SMU I have gone through many trials and tribulations, however, I have learned to overcome obstacles. After a couple of years in school I learned to deal with my problems better. The services that SNIU provides are quite helpful. The counseling Center has been a great asset to me since I went through a period in l972-l974 where I got very bored with school. Nly marks were low, and I dropped out a' lVIichael S.
