. . . The earth . . . we have been told . . . Habideth foreverfi but in the waning years of the last decade, and early in the Seventies, it became apparent that the latter biblical verity was in jeopardy. That seemingly unperishable contribution of nature to man was endan- gered, and the ensuing ecological vanguard or bandwagon led students across the nation to a celebration in praise of life, on Earth Day, April 22, 1970.

lVlan's glorious destiny in the skies, to some reflected in what might be the event ofthe dec- ade, the landing on the moon - seemed marred by our ignominous accomplishments in laying desolate vast reaches of the legacy of generations. But APOLLO on the moon cap- tured the imaginations of men from North Dartmouth to New Delhi, thankfully obscuring for a time, the import and immensity of problems at home. Mt ,lf at 'fl ,
