a definition of the word beautiful . . . To the current and prevailing generation the word beautiful refers not to a person ' s exterior features but, rather, to those in- terior qualities which in total add up to an individual of warmth and worth, of heart and soul. The editors and staff are proud to dedi- cate the 1969 Scrimshaw to two beautiful people. To SMTI ' s first Dean of Women- Miss Mary Louise Walsh Remarkable in your achievements, a lady of taste and style, a sophisticate in the real sense of that term — your ability in the classroom as a teacher has earned you the dual respect of both faculty and students. Becoming Dean of Women at a nearly all male institution and creating almost singlehandedly a place for women at a technological institute has been no easy task. Yet, in your role as administrator and teacher, you have not only fulfilled that charge, but you have served well as a model, guide and mentor for anyone who approached your door. Because such graciousness is an asset to any age we, your students, salute you with affection and say ' ' Thank you.

In times of crises, you have spoken with eloquence and force for the in- stitution, its principals of learning and academic free- dom. You richly deserve the respect and emulation that you have accrued. Among colleagues you are a re- spected administrator; among students you are loved.
