Nlessoge From President Driscoll The members of the graduating class of 1968 may feel, together with many other students of other colleges also leaving the academic world at this time, some apprehension as to what lies ahead in life for them. Your class is a part of a generation which has exhibited a genuine concern with the major issues with which man is confronted in the second half of the twentieth century. Large numbers of your generation have participated as activists in a number of man-serving noble organ- izations such as the PEACE CORPS and VISTA. A number of you will also serve in these, or similar humanitarian ventures. Clthers will defend, protect and foster our nation and its ideals by serving proudly as members of the Armed Forces of the United States. Perhaps some of you over time will have the honor of serving man and nation through both military and civilian organizations. I do hope each of you has made a personal commitment to contribute to the well-being of mankind and the preservation and further development of the demo- cratic ideal, thus helping to make our world a better, richer and safer place for all human beings. Do hold fast to your ideals and exercise continually an active commitment to help bring those ideals closer to reality. As you work for and toward the achievement and perfection of the ideals to which you are committed, remember to be charitable toward yourselves when you encounter reversals, as well as persevering, in order that you may also realize successes. You have ahead of you some difficult and trying times, as did the classes and generations which preceded you. Most have done better than we gave them credit for. If each of you does his or her share, and many others do theirs, your generation will be admired now and, perhaps, for centuries to come. Man, however dimly he sees it and realizes it at this moment, has the capacity for the first time in history to arrest and, possibly, eliminate, the ravaging effects which are the works of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. You have a role to play in helping men and societies use this capacity effectively. For as long as you bend your efforts to the achievement of that goal, you will live exciting and rewarding lives. I wish you well. I wish you happiness and accomplishment.
