Southeastern’s seven social frater- nities were again busy during the first two weeks of the Fall and Spring semesters ‘‘rushing’’ potential mem- bers. For openers, the Greek organiza- tions placed booths in the Student Union Mall displaying the fraternity’s achievements over the past several years. Trophies, girl friends, pictures, and enthusiastic talk marked the booths. 22 Activities Fraternity Rush Real recruiting, however, was reserved for the ‘‘keggers’’ and sup- pers. At these gatherings, which were held almost nightly throughout “rush,’” future Greeks were given an opportunity to explore the various organizations and select the one that most nearly fit their personal needs. Class Elections Apathy again marked the annual Fall ritual Known as class officer elections. Less than 500 students cast ballots in the elections which were devoid of issues. Freshman and sophomore office seekers generally livened up the con- test. Some banners did flutter in the hot September air, and election day was marked by candidates seeking support from passersby in the Student Union area. Each class elected a president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary, commuter senator and sweetheart. Run-off elections were required in a few of the races. The Student Government Associ- ation sponsored the class officer bal- loting. 24 Activities
