Sorority Rush The welcoming atmosphere of the Panhellenic party and the warm casualness of the informal parties opened sorority rush. The secluded intimacy of the theme parties and the decisions at the preference parties added to that fun, maddening time known as sorority rush. The potential pledge began to learn something about sorority life at the theme parties. Then followed the preference parties where rushees went to list first and second choices. Finally, on that exciting day, bids were issued amid the cheers of members and pledges alike. Southeastern’s seven social frater- nities were again busy during the first two weeks of the Fall and Spring semesters ‘‘rushing’’ potential mem- bers. For openers, the Greek organiza- tions placed booths in the Student Union Mall displaying the fraternity’s achievements over the past several years. Trophies, girl friends, pictures, and enthusiastic talk marked the booths. 22 Activities Fraternity Rush Real recruiting, however, was reserved for the ‘‘keggers’’ and sup- pers. At these gatherings, which were held almost nightly throughout “rush,’” future Greeks were given an opportunity to explore the various organizations and select the one that most nearly fit their personal needs. Following the rounds of parties, bids were issued and yet another group of young collegians were in- ducted into the Greek system. 4, a 7 reat ®t mala ies
