Closs Elections Provide Competitive Atmosphere Class elections are a maior event in the beginning ot each school year. The procedure is simple: the prospective candi- dates record their names in the Student Government ottice and campaign tor the desired posi- tions: the students register and vote on an appointed day tor their tellow classmates in an ot- ticial voting booth. This year signs ot the upcom- ing elections were seen through- out the campus days betore the tirst primary. All candidates be- gan a thorough campaign, putting posters in every conceivable place, such as the bulletin boards, and cars. When October 8 tinally ar- ?,,' ,Q-'- rived, the Student Union was literally covered with signs and people. All candidates busily campaigned in tront ot that build- ing to acquire the vote ot every passerby. The turnout tor the elections was good despite the downcast weather and the races were close making many ot the positions go into a second primary ot the tol- lowing Wednesday. Even then the wins and losses were close: tor example, the position tor Junior Class Vice-President was won by only one vote. Each class elected a president, vice-president, secretary, treas- urer, commuter senator, and sweetheart.
