INTRO Southeastern Louisiana College has long been described in the bro- chures as a quiet little college nestled in the heart of the Ozone Pine Belt of lovely Louisiana ; and for a quarter of a century, the bro- chures were correct. However, today these words fall short; SLC ' s loca- tion is the same but it is fast be- coming unnestled and far from being quiet. Southeastern, and other colleges and universities across the nation are in stages of metamor- phoses — a change of size and char- acter in which the large expand and the small explode. The student tidal wave was and is, the dual product of a nation-wide acceptance of success in terms of material gains as the ultimate aim of education and an alarming in- crease in the birth rate with its roots in the latent phases of World War II and its rapid growth during the post war aftermath of soaring eco- nomics, good iobs, and easy living. The resultant swell in school enroll- ments was no great surprise. The increase had been predicted by pre- dictors, had been capitalized upon by capitalists, had been observed by
