In 1957 she became a majorette with the SLC Band, and she per- formed with the band for four years. This beautiful Physical Education major was sweetheart of the Junior and the Senior Classes. In 1959 and again in 1960, Gloria was the second runner up in the Miss Tangipahoa Contest. When she was a Junior, Gloria was named as a member of the Homecoming Court, and she was chosen to be in Who's Who Among Students In American Colleges and Universities. Sophomore Lion sprinter Bob Fanning was recog- nized throughout the year as one of the toughest sprinters in the South. Fanning tumbled the GSC 100 yard dash record with a 9.5 performance and at the same time broke his own SLC mark. The young speed merchant, pictured on this page, also holds various records in the 220 yard dash and broad jump for SLC, Coach Al LeBlanc, had other speedy horses to help Fanning during the season in relays, sprints, middle distance races, and jumping events. However, lack of good depth in the field events ,prevented the Lions from making a better showing for the season. Added depth for distance races and weight events could catapult the Green and Gold to fame in the near future. A strong corps of talented freshmen and sophomores were the backbone of SLC's squad, and many will be around for years to come.
