The warm hullabaloo between classes. The announcement of anticipated election results. The prized victory after a tough basketball game. The peak of excitement on the Friday before the Prom. A flash of gold on a proud junior ' s hand. The hushed silence of satisfied farigue after a completed term paper or final exam. The remembrance of daisies mingled with ivy. And finally graduation, the termi- nation of a way of life. The Spirit of South- eastern High is a distinct feature, an essential quality ingrained in the halls of our school. Words and pictures alone are incapable of retracing the hours of the 1964-65 school year. However, it is our goal that even such small tokens will kindle in you vivid remembrances of the Spirit of Southeastern. We invite you to step with us through the halls of Southeastern High and to renew with untarnished sharpness those moments when the Spirit of SHS blossomed forth. .♦ .139 tif n ' ? v-Y ■SiP ■ ■t„ yA; aijy ,« ) j i . t ' : -Jh- Dedication The essence of an education is a dedicated teacher who instills in her students not only knowledge, but also the love of learning. A true teacher creates an alive, vibrant atmosphere of searching curi- osity encompassing the riddle of life itself. Such is the teaching of the one to whom this yearbook is dedicated. Graduates of Southeastern High have for many years stepped into the world as more complete men and women under the guidance of Miss Velmarae Dunn. On behalf of the entire student body the Seniors of ' 65 dedicate this 1965 edition of the Le Petit Souvenir to Miss Velmarae Dunn, our Miss Dunn, in deepest appreciation. i ' i Administration DR. Through the course of this year, we have won many honors and excelled in academic and extracurricular activities. We have shared many wonderful experiences together. Unity These separate words are joined together to form the spirit of South- eastern High School. There are a great many traditions at Southeastern. One of them is the Daisy Chain Ceremony that is per- formed every year atSeniorDay. The daisy chain symbolizes the traditions of Southeastern High School. The senior girls carry in the daisy chain and present it to the junior girls so that they can cmrry on the traditions. The junior girls give the senior girls a lighted candle to guide them in their search for knowledge. Enthusiasm is found in every thing the students participate in. The spirit at the student body elections, Fresh- man Day, and basketball games are just a few examples of the boundless enthusiasm of Southeastern High stu- dents. Loyalty is a quality that is ex- pressed in many different ways. There is the loyalty to friends, to classmates, and above aU to Southeastern High School. Each student serves the school, his friends, and his classmates in many small ways each day. The consoling pep talk when things look bad can be just as important as all the work on the prom and on scenery for the play. The feeling of unity at South- eastern is a natural one. The school being small, the students feel like part of one, big, happy family. Election Time Come on in, everybody, it ' s hootenanny time! In September the students at Southeastern High School devote their time and energy to the election of a president and vice pres- tdent to guide them through the activities of the year. Cooperation and democracy are generated through the spirit of the election. 60 Coach congratulates the victors. One more class to count Freshman Day Ummm .... It ' s good. At the Christmas Dance besides the air of Christ- mas festivity there is an air of excitement and anxious waiting. Traditionally the fav- orites, beautiful girls, and handsome boys are announced. As the time draws near the excitement mounts. Finally the announce- ments are over; everyone relaxes and enjoys the dance.
