E151 if if E eh-- SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE The first half of this century has been marked with great progress. This progress has been made in the face of two ,world wars and a serious economic depression. Now we are faced with another tragic emergency that is world-wide. To high school graduates this emergency is indeed tragic. It poses many problems of adjustment for our young people. It is generally agreed that education in general will help youth to solve many of its problems. Liberal edu- cation frees the minds of people from the shackles of ignor- ance, prejudice, and superstition, and developes the process of informed, unprejudiced, logical thinking - so necessary to solve the problems of today. MILEY COTTRILL FRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE The publishing of this annual reminds us that another school year is ended. The completion of another year means another Senior Glass is leaving the halls of Southeastern High School. we wonder, in the years to come, how you Seniors will view this brief span of -high school -years, the 'history of which this annual records. Permit me, in a passing moment of wishful thinking, to answer for you. It is my sincere desire that each will remember his high school days with a deep love and reverence for Alma Mater, with a great appreciation of the opportunity afforded for learning the lessons so essential to lifeg with an abid- ing belief that the associations and friendships made with students and teachers are priceless, with the conviction that loyalty, spirit, and cooperation developed in school life are the essentials in life's school, with the belief that school was the best and happiest days of your entire life. Hearty congratulations to the staff on this very excel- lent publication UTHE BLUE AND WHITEU and best wishes for success for each Senior of the 1951 graduating class. C. S. CLASS PROPHECY OF 1951 Ladies and Gentlemen, schoolmates of the good old days, and friends of by gone years, I see before ne many faces that are new, but I also behold many th were present at the graduation of this class 30 years ago. To you who saw us go forth upon that occasion, bearing the trophies of cmumenoement, I would say we have returned--laden with honors for the best school a class ever left, S. H. S. Before I leave, I wish to present the members of the class of 1951, who are be- fore you and give you a few facts concerning each. To the extreme left I see that outstanding gentleman who was the one and only president of our class and is now the president of the U. S., the immortal Bob Fairchild. There, next to the president, is his dearest school chum, the great singer of folk songs, 'Texas George' fornwrly known as George Mavis. Yes, Tex is really famous but there is another famous one from '51, Admiral Bill Bar- row of the United States Navy. Bill is also the coach of the Navy Basketball Team. Yeah Navy! The distinguished looking gentleman next to the Admiral lwith the little goteej is that noted foreign ambassador, Jack Bruno of Italy. we are also very proud to introduce to you those lovely ladies from the Powers Model Agency in N. Y., Lucille James, Helen Hart, and Evelyn Hess. It seems we have beauties here from coast to coast. From Hollywood we have singer Barbara Leasuge, and the second Hedy Lamar, Jessie Butcher. Ladies known for their business professions are, Marilyn Drake, owner of that widely known chain of Duckies Inn Resturants, and Loretta Fairchild, heiress to the Harper enter- prises. I am sure that some of you here today will remember Norma O'Dell's ambition, being a.nurse at Holzer Hospital. She is at Holzer Hospital, but she is a patient in the psycho ward and could not attend today . we have that famous T V star, Bob White. He certainly has left Godfrey and Berle in the dust. I also see that 'Slick' cadet from West Point, Neal French. Close to Cadet French is Cowboy Jerry Wickline, who owns a large ranch in -Ari- zona. I know you all remember how quiet Jimmy Betty was in school. He is now a news commentator. That mischevious Homer Silcott has become a poet and is considered another Shakespeare. We also have those three joint-owners of the Kresge 5 and 10 cent stores. They are Alice Chaney, Dorothy Curtis, and Mildred Detty. Sitting with them is their old school chum, Marie Smith, who has become a famous home economist. Audrey Maple, a missionary at the South Pole, has re- turned to the States for a convention and was able to attend the celebration to- da . ' ' Y The muscle-bound girl of our class is here today along with her manager, Champion Edna Howard and manager Doris Dozer. Mildred Burke doesn't compare with Edna. I might add that Edna is going to be challenged for the Championship by Evelyn Fairchild. I noticed that Sue Davis has taken cheerleading to the heart. She became America's number one model cheer-leader. Noah Skaggs, Gerald Sword, and David Castle have turned their attention to nPron basketball. They were recently signed up by Coach Richard Oyer of the New York Polar Bears. Jim Grant has really become a ladys man. He has become owner of the Gayety Bur- lesque. ' We noticed that Junior Cunningham is driving a new Ford now instead of the model A he had while in school. I guess that's because he is Vice-President of the Ford Motor Car Company. The first and greatest woman lawyer of the world is with us today, Nancy Lee. You could kill 10 people and Nancy would prove you innocent. The star of the womens 'Pro' basketball team is our old school chum, Laura Detty. I might add that she never makes a fowl. Have you noticed that man with the figure 8 for a head, that one and only genius of a mathematician, Pete Detty? You never would guess that Franklyn Hahn, Marvin Speakman, and Don Lyons, would have become a singing trio. Would you? Peffinning as freshmen of South- eastern High School, we have climbed up with hard work and 553 weariness. Sometimes, when the weather was bad, we wondered if why anyone should want to climb mountains. But we 'had thrills. Most of the big thrills came on the way up.The way iff gets rougher, the ascent steeper, the work harder ,and Ithe breath shorter but enthusiasm rises and soars much faster ghd than lagqinp feet. ' . igg As freshmen we were dreading General Science and Algebra. fl, Mrs. Barnett helped us overcome this fear as she was our ftH home room teacher. An important event of this year was our 253 first big class party after school hours. gif As sophomores we were entertained at another successful iQq class party by the teachers. This year we looked forward to QQ1 the Junior year when we could get our class rinvs. 51 'Lg And now the azreatest year of our lives arrived! We worked hard with the Halloween Carnival, sellina magazines ggg, making the Southeasterners, and selling food at 'the ho e glf basketball games, in order to raise money for our trip to ?f Washington. we enjoyed poins to Columbus to have our Prad- 355 nation pictures taken. we Have our Senior class play NRiddka EEA Me Riches , May 5, a comedy in three acts. The Junior- Sen- ior banquet was held April 25. The peaks of challenve are still far above us. The if? thrills must he accompanied by strong exertion. But we are scaling the heights toeether.
