NE of the surest ways of recalling a given period of years gone by is through the songs that were strongly prominent at the time. True, many such songs do not survive the agesg but an annual, this annual, is not a museum for classical music. The songs around which our theme is formed were chosen to serve as souvenirs of our school-year. It's been a precious year to us, bulged full of all kinds of experiences. As the incidents of this year fade deeper and deeper into the past, the Seniors of the 1940 classes will be increasingly grateful for anything that will help them to re-enjoy these moments, in the tranquility of their reading chairs. VVe hope that what we have tried to do here serves the purpose in a measure that agrees with the time and effort the 1940 Aryan has claimed of us. THE Enrroks BUD ENGSTROM Editor

4 Mrs. Eppie Oles OR a long time the writing of this little note promised to be a diflicult task. The desire to do the thing full justice kept us in a fog of confusion. - But when we took a really good look at what we were trying to do, the haze lifted abruptly. Mfe realized there was no job at allg that is, nothing really needed telling, nothing to explain why we were dedicating the 1940 Aryan to Mrs. Eppie Oles. It is precisely because of the hne, quiet, steady job of excellence done by Mrs. Oles through all these years that we feel nothing need be said now in explanation. XfVe want only to say we are mighty happy of the opportunity of expressing this greatly deserved, though inadequate, signal of our honor, love, and respect for a Hne teacher. l ninlcnrlnn
