FUHEUJURD OR three years we have had conffzzsed feelings about the glorified day o commencement, and now it is rapidly becoming history. Each is entangled in his labyrinth of ideas of what to do. Some of us are destined to join the hles of pioneers who are perpetually seeking new and better things. There is but little difference between us and our forefathers in that we are both trying to unearth some as yet undiscov- ered principle. The pioneer of yesterday set ont to hnd the unknown and suc- ceededg so .shall we. They set up the traditions of todayg we shall erect the tra- ditions of tomorrow. Let ns determine as we delve through the pages of this book of memories that we shall continue to progress, not to stagnate. W jhe Cpfllifurs.

DEUICHTIUH HERB EDVVAHIIS ODAY, in a high school like ours, bein b g a mem- er of the faculty means a . great deal more than just teaching The ext l. ent of the difference between teacher and ideal faculty member depends upon the individual. The Aryan Staff believes that one member of our faculty who has consistently extended the sphere of his usefulness far beyond the requisites of excellent teaching is William H. Edwards-Herb to his col- leagues in the Math department, and to his friends. Herb Edwards has done this with faithful steadiness, showing in the meantime a fine unconcern about rec- ognition. The story of the kind of job Mr. Edwards has been doing in his classroom extends far beyond the confines of his pupils. His efficient, cheerfully given assistance in all Southeastern's Auditorium activities has been invaluable. There are other things about Herb Edwardsg he is a scholarly fellow with an unusually rich acquaint- ance with fine literature. It is the accumulation of such qualities of personality and accomplishment then that we of th A e ryan Staff feel more than jus- tifies us in dedicating this 1 d' ' 939 e 1t1on to South- eastern's great good fri d en , William H. fHerbj Edwards.
