COSMETCLGGY b. -. 1 Cosmetology Class Presents Our Unknown Future : During the Spring Quarter of '77, the Cosmetology Class at SCC held its annual Spring Hair-Styling Contest. The competition drew 32 students, with their models, to vie for the coveted trophies. This year's contest, with the theme of Our Unknown Fu- ture, played to an enthusiastic audience in the SCC Audito- rium. The student cosmetologists were judged on execution, originality, adaptability, and the total look. fl-sae,--I f lg is 'Til f Ms, Cosmetology: Carolina Clarida ? gf ...--1' SCC Cosmetology students enjoy working with their patrons. These students come to the campus during the summer for six weeks of intensive aca- demic and cultural enrichment. During the school year these stu- dents also come to campus one Saturday a month for academic work. Tutors and other resources are made available to these stu- dents to assist them in their high school courses and to aid in their eventual entrance to college. In 1977 the college day activities were held on October 5th from 10:30- 12:00 A.M. on the porch of the new multi-purpose building and in the student lounge. Crowds amassed as high school students from the county arrived to partake of the knowledge of ap- proximately 70 college representatives. Southeastern students, concerned with the a future beyond SCC also gathered information to take away, digest and decide upon. College Day provides a unique opportunity to stu- dents with questions answerable only by a college representative who imparts correct knowledge con- cerning the college he represents. MS SCC PAGEA T Ms. SCC, a honor, excitement, disappointments, dedication, fun, all fitting words describing the emotions involved in our pageant. Through the efforts of the director, Sue Hawks and the technical director, W.C. Butler, the SCC pageant has evolved into a highly competitive and entertaining event. Open to any female SCC sudent, the pageant offers the participant a different dimension in campus life. The competition is great as each contestant competes in four areas, including streetwear, talent, swimsuit, and eveningwear. Also involved in the course of events is an individual preliminary interview with the judges. A real insight into the girls personality and ability to represent SCC is gained. s,t,u,.J ' U 'Hanna . s -'J x. i And the winner is . . . Tere- sa Dawn Hicks of Wilming- ton, NC A potential nursing student, Teresa is a freshman at SCC. Her on-stage talent consisted of a jazz dance routine to the tune Dazz. She will reign for one year as Ms. SCC unless her enroll- ment at SCC ceases, due to withdrawal or transfer. Re- ceiving the title of Ms. SCC does not end the excite- ment. Teresa has participat- ed in numerous parades and public service events with still more activities planned for her. Representing the college as Ms. SCC is a full- time obligation. Holding im- portant titles are Daphna Day Turbeville, 'lst runner- up and Debbie Ann George, 2nd runner-up. Peggy joyce Hill was presented the cov- eted Ms. Congeniality award. This year's SGA has taken the initiative to do an outstanding job! STUDE T COUNSELORS , ft Student counseling is new at SCC this year. The program has been set up to assist the new Resources for Student Learning students in study skills and survival information. Student counselors are also just upper class friends. Student counselors are sophomores who are recruited in the spring of their freshman year, trained and selected the next fall, and intern during the fall, winter, and spring quarters. Major responsibilities include: 13 being a co-group leader at the fall RSL retreat, 25 teaching study and survival sills in ORI 101, 31 assisting students with career exploration, 41 working on special projects, including women students, dropouts, research and evaluation, and recruitment. The student counsel- ors have been a real asset to SCC this year. I want to thank each of the student counselors for his good work, persis- tence, and dedi- cation to help- ing others.
