And then the lover, Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier, Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard. For each of us there have been those who have made the two years a little more special. Our mem- ories of them will never fade. Class pictures, club pictures, candid pictures, all preserve the past for us; but it's the memories behind the pic- tures that give them meaning. l00 The memories are shadows now, lonely, vague, and lazy against the years; but though the impressions are dimming the thoughts behind them are still - and always will be - very vivid. Time cannot erase the joys, the hardships, the thrills, the defeats, the triumphs, the doubts, the discoveries that all of us have experienced these two years: a special and most im- portant two years - our years at S.C.C. As sand passes through the hour-glass, so do our lives pass through time, leaving us only with the memories of days past. We leave - but we take the memories with us. I0l Pres. Houtz reads a letter to the sophomores from Dean Lydic. As the sophomores received their certificates, they realized their two years at S.C.C. were over. Dr. John Snyder from Indiana Uni- versity addressed the graduating class of e'68. Awards Presented Class Night I: This year, for the first time, the Torch staff sponsored a Class Night. It's purpose was to re- cognize the sophomores and to award outstanding members of the student body. The program, with Mr. Tapp as Master of Ceremonies, included: processional of Soph- omores; a short talk by the sophomore class president - Raymond Maggard; an address by Mr. Henry L. Ott; two songs, Yesterday and Once Upon a Time , sung by Judy Powell; and presentation of awards by Mrs. Branch Carty. The installation of new Student Council members was also an event of Class Night. All I can say is . . . Some people must really rate! l03 Looking Back . . Some of these will succeed and there will be those who will fail. Their destiny lies in their willingness to do their best and in their contributions to the world about them. Few individuals can hope to change the course of events, but each can llb try to contribute whatever he can. The years will find us all in different places, doing different things. Our visions of S.C.C. will, like everything else, begin to fade; but it is not the memory of the physical structure which is important. The re- servoir of experiences which SCC has given us will be invaluable in every endeavor of our lives.
