IIo 1- ln preparing the 1967 Gateway, my first thought and desire was that the Lord Jesus Christ would be honored in every phase of its production as well as in the finished product. Our theme, So walk ye in Him, is descriptive ot the abiding life which the Christian can have in Christ. With this thought con- tinually in mind, it has been a ioy and a blessing to watch my staff progressively compile pictures and literary description that portray Christ in every phase of student life at Southeastern. The purpose of Southeastern Bible College is to train and equip young men and women to serve Jesus Christ and to share the Word of God with others, no matter what their vocation or calling. Without proper administration this purpose could never be accomplished. The administration is composed of the faculty, staff and Board of Trustees, and is concerned with the smooth, efficient operation of the College. Each administrative detail, from classroom instruction to care for the physical properties, must be faithfully carried out by the administrative personnel in order that the overall purpose of the College might be fulfilled. qsbilffl' Q CLASSES Each student in Bible college, perhaps more than in any other type of educational institution, approaches his educa- tion with a purpose. This purpose involves not only an intel- lectual apprehension of Biblical and related knowledge, but a practical application of spiritual truth to his day by day experience. This kind of purpose cannot be accomplished unless the student becomes exposed to the Word in the class- room, and participates in campus and dormitory activities. 'Within this process, he learns to relate his training to each of the various areas of his lite, thus making him progressively more mature spiritually. L 1. R as 2 CRGANIZATIONS u lv 60. J f+ WC ,fa I mv Q . f'A- 4' 7,35 J One of the most important lessons to be learned in college is that of working with other people. This is especially true of those who are pre- paring tor the ministry, whether in a pastorate, an educational position, or on the mission field. The various organizations of Southeastern pro- vide each student with the opportu- nity to develop skills of cooperation, discipline and understanding that he will be able to use in future service. .- 'uv' ,f.,,,, . v ' l,.,-- A, , I 1 s l 4 3,6 . The student must develop not only his intellectual abilities but also his total personality. Campus activities includ- ing the social, the athletic, the spiritual and the ac- ademic work toward this end. Ball games, ban- quets, intormal gatherings, prayer band, and Christian Service all play a part in developing the total personality ot the Bible college student. i .i ,if On a level with the academic departments of the College, the Christian Service Department concerns itself with giving each student an op- portunity to put into practical use the facts he learns in the classroom. Students are placed in different ministries in localchurches, Bible clubs and various other spheres of Christian endeav- or. This enables each student to appreciate the practical value ot his training in the Word and to use it even before graduation. CHRISTIAN SERVICE 'N DEDICATION The effective operation of Southeastern Bible College is much dependent upon the efforts of those whose contribution of time and talent in their respective capacities are often unheralded. We proudly dedicate the l967 Gateway to one such servant of God, Maior lret.l W. D. Ken- drick, whose tireless efforts as Business Manager of Southeastern have been an invaluable asset to the efficient operation and recent expansion program of the College. I I MAJOR W .D. Lit- tle did you realize at the time that this was merely the begin- ning ofa greater challenge to faith throughout your college years. Now as you look back, I am sure that it is with ioy as you reflect upon what God hath wrought. While faith was not a formal subiect on the curriculum, you soon discovered that it claimed much of your time and attention, and rightly so since God has ordained that The just shall live by faith. The fact that you are to be graduated May 13 is proof that you have responded to its disciplines. Congratulations upon this milestone in your walk of faith. As you leave your Alma Mater, let me encourage you to take with you a paraphrase of a text we have shared togeth- er often lCol. 2:6l, As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord - by faith - so keep on walking in union with Him. n Prayerfully yours, g xx' Qicffefff 'L r. c-...Q hh' Alden A. FOREIGN An important emphasis at Southeastern is missions. Foreign Missions Fellowship is an organization serving the entire student body. Its function is that of presenting the needs of missionaries, praying for them, and challenging young people to go unto the uttermost part of the world and preach the Gospel. Its activities consist of weekday prayer groups, a weekly F.M.F. service, and stu- dent proiects. In the summer ot l966, Ver- non Hoag served as a summer missionary to Netherlands Antilles. F.M.F. plans to send other students to the field this summer. Also this year, through the Faith-Promise Program, students contributed to the North Africa Mission for property in Marseilles, France, to the Pocket Testament League to send Gospels of John to Viet Nam, and a windmill for Daniel and Pauline Sutton in the Philippines. Prayer Ba nd Captains MISSIONS FELLOWSHIP Foreign Missions Fellowship is a national organi- zation. The current Southeastern Regional presi- dent and secretary are students of Southeastern Bible College. They are David Moore, president, and Charlotte Wyss, secretary. The tall regional conference was held in Toccoa, Georgia. The speaker was our own President, Alden A. Gannett, and the missions speaker was Rev. Paul M. David- son, Chairman of the Department of Missions, Mid-South Bible College, Memphis, Tennessee. Rr .5 ,ii i an i ' -Hfgi X '.- -I-.Q-'if 7-111, ' xxx ' I.-1, XXJIJ4' Because of not living on campus, married students often lose contact with the rest of the student body and with the nonacademic activities of the School. The purpose of Mar- ried Couples' Fellowship is to prevent this loss of contact as well as to provide wives of students with an opportunity to participate in their husband's college activities. This is accomplished through bi-monthly meetings, usually held in members' homes. Officers: Don Hawkins, president, Jack Coffee, vice-presidentp Marguerite Smith, secretary, Dr. Matheson, advisor MARRIED COUPLES' FELLOWSHIP SPANISH CLUB The Spanish Club is an organization open to all students. Its aim is to give practical experience in the language and to familiarize stu- dents with the mission field of Latin America. The Varsity Club is an orga- nization consisting of basketball players and cheer- leaders: It sponsors all sports activities of the School, striving to promote enthusiasm and partici- pation ot the entire student body. These activities include basketball games, pep rallies, ping-pong tournaments and baseball. The basketball team is a member of a city league as well as of the Southern Christian Athletic Conference which enables South- eastern to compete with other Christian colleges in the south. VARSITY CLUB SOCIAL CCMMITTEE The Social Committee is composed ot both student and faculty members. lts purpose is to plan a variety ot social events. Stunts, banquets, musicales and guest artists are in- cluded in its planning. This committee cooperates with the Student Council and the individual classes in coordinating the social lite of the College. Q I ?v 11 f ' 4 ,.:.4:gg ll it -' . i D i W l vt! HORSE I 'i-.23 5. ALUMNI ASSOCIATION Officers: Edith Taft, executive secretary, Alan Button, presidentg Douglas Ford, first vice-presidentg Susan Chose, recording secre- tary, Jan Langford, second vice-president The evidence of a school's worth is in its alum- ni. Approximately ninety percent ot Southeast- erni's graduates are in full-time Christian service. The Alumni Association meets each year for a time of fellowship and strengthening of ties with the College by seeing the progress that is being made. An annual proiect is chosen at this time by the Association. The proiect for I966 was the purchase of a fifteen drawer section forthe card catalog in the Library.
