The University has served the people of this area Wellu Its CHYGCUOI1 11964115 to be constantly re-examined, its goals re-evaluated, and the methods for achieving them re -considered by all those who love it and who attenipt to serve it in order that it may stay on course., Its primary responsibility for the past one hundred years has been that of furnishing the opportunity for higher education to all who need it and especially to those who have little of this World's goods with which to pay for it., The temptation to rnake all students pay for educational services has always been in the minds of a segment of our population. This threat is again rearing its head and all of us need to be on guard to beat it back., I trust that each of you Will do his best to see to it that public education continues to be public. It Won't be unless those with ability to learn but limited means, as Well as those with plenty, have access without future financial burdens., I congratulate you on the opportunity to serve. Very sincerely, Mark Scully President Cent
