As Dean of Students, it is a rare occa- sion indeed when Dean Walker can be found alone in his office. Dean Walker is required to be present at numerous affairs concerning every aspect of col- lege life. Each student is of utmost importange to the Dean ofStudents. Checking on a student's file is another of Dean Walk- er's many tasks. Dean of Students, Carroll D. Walker, has served in this capacity since 1961. In 1951, he received his B.S. in Education from Murray State University and his M.S. in Education in 1961 from Southern Illinois University. Dean Walker's varied activities range from being advisor to IFC to enjoying a friendly game of golf. The role of Dean of Stu- dents is an important one on our campus, and from-it both unfor- tunate and rewarding experiences may develop. The campus is for- tunate that Dean Walker is not only efficient but friendly in his role. Relaxing after a heated debate in a Student Senate meeting, Dean Walker discusses problems in student government with the Student Body President. Dean Walker assists the Student Senate as Administrative Advisor. xx Thinking deeply over the problem at hand, Dean Walker pauseg trying to find the proper solution. DEDICATIQ Dean Mary Helen Flentge Dean Carroll Walker College life is a new d , g companied by numerous problems and adjustments. Learning experiences, as well as other opportunities for both intellectual and social growth, often leave a student in a state of frustra- tion. Wh ' ' T ' ' en a student finds himself in such a dilemna, he must turn to the proper person for as- sistance so that his academic goals will be channeled in the right direction. 1 Mrs. Mary Helen Flentge serves as Associate Dean of Student Per- sonnel. 1111958 Dean Flentge became a member of the staff at South- east Missouri State College. After receiving an A.B. degree from Missouri University in 1932, she was graduated from this institution in 1956 vvith a E-.S. in Education. Mrs. Flentge pursued her M.S. in Education at both Missouri University and Southern Illinois Univer- sity, attaining the degree in 1959 from SIU. Her understanding na- ture has helped many troubled students walk from her office re- lieved of their problems or with the renewed courage to face them. 1 s 5 A. ,, ,... V , U One of Dean Flentge's many roles as As- sociate Dean is that of Panhellenic Advi- fl sor. Here she assists a member of the Stu- dent Dean's office staff in compiling rush lists. l i ' f it g. li ii ll Both dignity and a sense of adventure characterize Dean Flentge. On various occa- sions she can be seen serving at a formal affairg however, she is e uall at home in Cl Y more informal situations and enjoys vacations such as her African safari this fall and trips to the Orient. One of Dean Flentge's duties isto advise many campus organizations, not only in the selec- tion of members, but also in the organiza- tional operations.
