L- - In the middle of the confusion of orientation, the freshmen-and everyone else-found enrollment a har- rowing experience consisting of standing in lines for hours and hours, filling out packets of cards, dashing from room to room for IBM cards, thoughts of suicide when a closed class remains closed despite pleading and tears, desperate conferences, thirty-second smoke or coke breaks, and, finally, the exhausted elation of a completed schedule. The people who had pre-enrolled just sat in the Caf and gloated while their friends, carrying orange schedule cards trudged to the library to spend a few more hours in the book line trying to find a text that hadn't come in yet. ID pictures are also taken during enrollment-those blue cards don't resemble anything human, but are necessary to college existence.
