They roll up jeans to avoid drenching them in the early morning dew on the grass. 9:45 After two solid hours of marching steadily and listening to sponsor yell through his megaphone, You're out of step! You're out of line! , band is finally allowed to go in, put up its instruments, and go to second hour. 10:30 Some band memberis minds wan- der to the upcoming District Marching contest in October. They reflect that if they earn a 1 rating there, they go to State contest in Lawton. 4:00 Band begins to get ready, individ- ually, for the evening's game. They clean their instruments, gather music and uniforms, and set out for pre-game practice. Band: A F our-Star

Start again! , through the megaphone. Repeat proce- dure. 7:00 Hot uniforms are put on to look good for pre-game rendition of the na- tional anthem. The nervous butterflies are kicking up. 7:25 Band stands solemnly on the field, playing the national anthem. Someone hits a wrong note: there are snickers from the direction of the Pep Club. 7:40-8:30 This time is spent playing se- lections and watching the game. As halftime approaches, uniforms are straightened and music readied. 8:45 On the field at last, and the butter- flies are taking over. There is constant fear of missing a step or turning the wrong way. All eyes in the stands are upon the musicians on the field. 8:50 Finally, the big moments are over. The third quarter of the game is spent socializing and stuffing one's face, and by fourth quarter, band is once again in their places. 10:10 At the end of the game, the indi- vidual band members go their separate ways. There is always a majority en route to Pizza Hut, for more eating and shooting the breeze. 12:00 The members are on their way home for a brief respite until Monday morning 7:30 marching practice. Ye
