Choirs and ensembles perform in Music Festivals Twenty-five junior and senior girls formed the Backstage Minority this year, an increase over last year. Under the direction of Mrs. Trudy Burkholder, they performed at concerts, womens clubs, civic organiza- tions, and the City Music Festival. The Backstage Mi- nority also participated in the All-City tea hosted by the junior Misses. The girls were selected on the basis of their musical knowledge and ability to blend, as well as their individual voice quality. Singing art songs and popular ones, and planning choreography kept the 1970 Backstage Minority busy. Mrs. Trudy Burkholder directed the Sophomore Choir this year, a choir of 95 select voices. These stu- dents were chosen on recommendations of their ju- nior high teachers, as well as their knowledge of music skills. Participating in all of the concerts presented by the Fine Arts Department, going caroling, and plan- ning picnics at Sim's park kept the sophomores busy. A mixed ensemble and girls ensemble were chosen out of sophomores who sang in the City Music Festival. 90 sophomore, junior, and senior girls met to- gether to form Girls Glee Club. Also directed by Mrs. Burkholder, the Glee Club was made up of first, third, and sixth hours. This group also performed in various programs throughout the year and competed in the State Music Festival.
