fine arts presents musical performance Presenting the musical production South Pacific” were the combined efforts of the Fine Arts Department. Mr. Don Weddle's advanced art class worked on stage scenery and sets, while Miss Ruth McCormick's and Mr. Vernon Nicholson's students provided the actors. Under the direc- tion of Mr. Thaync Tollc, the pit orchestra provided the music for various scenes and songs. Other productions were presented by the Drama Depart- ment, including the Junior play. Senior play, and Spoonriv- er Anthology. According to Miss McCormick, drama teacher, the objectives of drama were to give the students a great deal of self-confidence” and give them an idea of what producing a play was like. Other art courses, in addition to the advanced arts class, included Drawing and Painting, Commercial Design, Sculpture, and Introduction to Art. Mrs. Sue Harms was a new teacher this year, replacing Mrs. Jean Price. “Choralcsque” and various other productions, including student assemblies, were presented by the vocal and instru- mental groups. Various ensembles were formed within both groups, and in the spring, these ensembles performed at dis- trict and state music festivals. Instrumental ensembles in- cluded a woodwind quintet, string quartet, and a brass choir. Students in the advanced arts class help construct and assist in the design- ing of the stage scenery for South Pacific .
