expansion requires transition library A Southeast Pep Club member studies in the transition library, formerly the wrestling room. A bout 30 proctors worked in the library this year. As construction on the new library continued through the 1968-69 year, cramped spaces and overcrowded book shelves marked a temporary library in the former wrestling room. The new library will include a separate room for the audio-visual equipment with Mrs. Ada Clifton as secretary. Mrs. Virginia Fields, head librarian, said of the new library, “Modern equipment will be used throughout the library such as micro-film readers, copy machine, and modern audio-visual equipment'’. Besides being air-conditioned and carpeted, there will also be a mezzanine which will feature art prints created by both Southeast students and famous artists. A “typing knook with six typewriters for student use will also be included on the mezzanine. Within the next five years, a capacity of 24,000 books now available. The librarian secretary was Mrs. Helen Jewett and the new assistant librarian was Mrs. Ruth Pearcy, who worked with Mrs. Mary Wing, the other assistant librarian. Mrs. Margaret Walters, and Miss Jane Wilke. office staff keeps southeast operating With a school as large as Southeast, there was easily enough work to employ eight office staff workers. As Dr. Addis’ secretary, Mrs. Rita Reiser ordered supplies for the school and compiled the yearly budget. Working at the switchboard and handling correspondence work for the counselors and administration kept Mrs. Rosalie Schreffler busy. Miss Debby Davis, an East High School senior, worked in the office this year during the afternoon. Calculating grade point averages for approximately 2400 students and evaluating their transcripts occupied most of Mrs. Vera Ridgway's time. Mrs. Nadine Rogers handled the enrollment of all new students and the Pupil Data Processing. Besides sending transcripts to the colleges. Miss Jane Wilke handled the general bookkeeping, and was responsible for receiving money and paying bills. Checking out students for appointments and recording absences and tardies was the job of Mrs. Gean Herd. Mrs. Margaret Walters, Registered Nurse, took care of emergency cases, assisted at dental check-ups. and counseled students. 13

The outer room of the Guidance Center is a familiar scene to many Southeast students. counselors advise students’ choices The Guidance Center was enlarged this year as it included a conference and testing room, a new office and a room which was used for student tutoring. An additional counselor was also added to the guidance staff, which brought the number of counselors to five. Mr. Corwin Bare, head of the department, was concerned with the problems of students choosing a college or a vocation. Counseling the class of 1969 since it entered Southeast as sophomores, Mr. Richard Elving was now concerned with the problems of seniors. Mrs. June Turner was the counselor for juniors with last names beginning with A through N. The new counselor at Southeast this year was Mr. Kenneth Clark, a former Social Studies teacher at Robinson Junior High School. He worked with sophomores and juniors whose last names begin with O through Z. Miss Fanny Thompson counseled the sophomores whose last names begin with the letters A through N. 15
