Victorious Debate Year; SE Wins Second In State During 1967 — 68 Southeast's debate team had its finest season, winning a total of thirty-four trophies, including the second place prize in state competition. Southeast won more honors than any other school in Kansas in the debate field, adding more incentive for the already successful Southeast squad. Southeast debaters, coached by Mr. Bill Robinson, attended tournaments in all areas in Kansas each weekend during first semester. In October they hosted their own tournament, a cross-examination contest, with sixty teams participating. Resolved: That Congress should establish uniform regulations to control criminal investigation proce- dures.” Under this topic, the affirmative debate team had to present a code or plan regulating police proce- dure when investigating suspected criminals that would work better than the Supreme Court which con- trols criminal investigation procedure laws. Rodney Stcvents. Dave Knox. Choirs Performed Under Nicholson’s Direction Southeast's Choraleers performed again this year under the expert guidance of Mr. Vernon Nicholson. Composed of 98 selected, mixed voices, the group sang in the fall. Christmas, and spring concerts, and presented their annual Choralesque program in May. In addition to the City and State Music Festivals, the junior-senior choir sang for various civic organiza- tions and conventions, and presented programs to junior high schools and Kansas universities. Also directed by Mr. Nicholson were the Madrigals. Madrigals: FRONT ROW: Susan Cusick. Stephanie Ax. Linda Martin. Julie (Joehring. Kathleen Crist. Veda Brown. Donna Wright, Jo Fliekin- ger. Billie Harmison, Canonic Funston, Carole Klliott. Cathy Fliekinger. an ensemble of 22 selected voices. They performed Mr. Ross Lee Finney's numbers for him at the Kansas Music Teachers Association convention in Salina, and hoped to sing at the National Music Convention in Ontario. Canada the following summer. Junior Misses, a chosen group of 23 junior and sen- ior girls, hosted an Invitation concert in which other high school ensembles participated.
