B-hall echoed the rhythms of typing and the drone of shorthand dictation as Southeast students became acquainted with the atmosphere of the business de- partment. Offered for the first time this year, a personal typing course interested many college-bound students. The class stressed scholastic typing more than vocational preparation. Advanced typing students in B-7 took advantage of adjustable chairs made available to them this year. As a new addition to the Southeast faculty. Mrs. Hulda Stucky replaced Mrs. Shirlene Silvertooth. In addition to the common business courses, busi- ness mathematics, clerical and secretarial training, business law. and business communications were offered by the department. Business communications was extended from a one semester to a full year course. 21

Man’s Behavior; Govt. Examined By Students Investigating the history of Mankind and his present mode of behavior was the primary objective of the many Southeast students who enrolled in Social Stud- ies classes this year. Various courses which were available ranged from a study of Man through the ages to the examination of current events. Juniors were required to take U. S. His- tory and Government was a requisite for seniors: both were team-teaching classes. In team-teaching, the class contained 100 students, and three teachers ro- tated as instructor of the course. Southeast has used the method for seven years. Fred Rick and Janet Wehde. seniors. discuss their International Rela- tions questions, while Mr. Mel Schrooder studies a student's paper. Mr. I. Connie Both, %ophomorc, uses one of the many home economics sewing machines as she works on her project in Mrs. Gene Pcppcrkorn's fourth hour Clothing II class. Foods classes offered girls the opportunity to learn to cook many varie- ties of meals. Jan Nelson, and Ruth Grant, seniors, are involves! in pre- paring a dinner. Home Ec. Teachers Aid Girls; Attend K-State Three home economics teachers aided girls in be- coming more efficient future homemakers. Many planned department activities included a trip to Man- hattan in April for Kansas State University's Hospitali- ty Day. Clothing classes stressed the selection, care, and construction of garments. A spring fashion show of the garments made by the girls was scheduled. Plan- ning, preparing, and serving meals was emphasized in foods classes. The students learned to prepare foods from various regions of the world and to cook out-of- doors. Housing and Home Furnishings accented phases of the choice and decoration of homes. Acquainting stu- dents with adjustments necessary for personal happi- ness.
