 Man’s Behavior; Govt. Examined By Students Investigating the history of Mankind and his present mode of behavior was the primary objective of the many Southeast students who enrolled in Social Stud- ies classes this year. Various courses which were available ranged from a study of Man through the ages to the examination of current events. Juniors were required to take U. S. His- tory and Government was a requisite for seniors: both were team-teaching classes. In team-teaching, the class contained 100 students, and three teachers ro- tated as instructor of the course. Science Courtesy Committee New Aeronautics Class Teaches Flying Basics Forecasting the weather, navigating, and learning flight rules captured the interest of Aeronautics stu- dents. Offered for the first time this year, the one semester course encouraged a general appreciation of the principles of aviation, and also prepared stu- dents who would possibly take the Aviation Adminis- tration written examination. The class, taught by Mr. Charles Hatter, also planned field trips to local air- plane manufacturers, the Wichita Municipal Airport, and the Weather Bureau. The science department will benefit from a new bio- logical science room, storeroom, and office in the new wing. Science teachers representing eleven states attend- ed the Midwest Regional Conference in Wichita Octo- ber 12-14. Southeast teachers attended the meetings and planned the tours. The Science department staff dropped in number this year from eight to seven. Mr. Neil Miller became a member of the Southeast faculty after leaving Cole- man Junior High School. 19

B-hall echoed the rhythms of typing and the drone of shorthand dictation as Southeast students became acquainted with the atmosphere of the business de- partment. Offered for the first time this year, a personal typing course interested many college-bound students. The class stressed scholastic typing more than vocational preparation. Advanced typing students in B-7 took advantage of adjustable chairs made available to them this year. As a new addition to the Southeast faculty. Mrs. Hulda Stucky replaced Mrs. Shirlene Silvertooth. In addition to the common business courses, busi- ness mathematics, clerical and secretarial training, business law. and business communications were offered by the department. Business communications was extended from a one semester to a full year course. 21
