ss Students Acquire Fundamentals For Jobs In Business Teaching business skills for a vocational education is the main objective of the business department. Typewriters and adding machines, shorthand dictations, stock market quotations, and sales pitches all help to produce the business-like atmosphere of B-hall. Besides the bookstore, classes such as typing, shorthand, business law. clerical procedures, notchand, salesmanship, secretarial training, business arithmetic, accounting, basic business, bookkeeping, and business communications are found in the business department. The only changes in the department class wise were the dropping of penmanship last year and the addition of notc- hand two years ago. Business communications will be extend- ed from a semester course to a yearly course next year. The department received a new electric ditto machine this year and an overhead projector last year. rs. Since the depart- ment first began teaching the modern math in 1958. algebra and geometry text books have been revised two and three times respectively. The ever changing teaching methods that accompany the modern math have sent teachers back to school. They keep up with the latest teaching techniques both by extra training and by picking it up' as they teach. Not only text books, but various geometric visual aids, overhead projectors, charts, model slide rulers, and of course, the blackboard aided in teaching and stimulating interest in all math courses. At one time or another through their high school years, students found themselves in a math class. Aimed at all high school age students of different intellectual levels, the math- ematics department includes such courses as Algebra I and II. analytic geometry, basic mathematics, business arithmetic, geometry, principals of mathematics, and trigonometry. The only course added to the department since the school's begin- ning is prineipels of mathematics. Mr. Edgar Schrocdor. B.S..M.S. Mathematics Eligibility Certification Mr. Noland A. Wallaco. Economic Education Observing the behavior of a rat m psychology class $ Southeast senior Joyce Aubert Human nature and the results of it have always fascinated man. Southeast students are no exception as many enrolled in social studies classes to better understand themselves and mankind as a whole. The social studies department started with six teachers in 1957 and has grown to twelve this year with four of the original ones still teaching. Team teaching began at Southeast in 1960 and has become increasingly effective through the years. It started with indi- vidual classes meeting together two or three days a week. Government, history, psychology, and humanities began us- ing the team teaching method in 1965. This method of teach- ing not only enables a maximum enrollment in a class, but also prepares students for similiar class conditions in college. Social study courses include economic education; govern- ment, required for seniors; international relations, an honors government class; modern European history; psychology; sociology; American history, required for juniors; world ge- ography; and world history. Class discussion and the exchange of personal opinions on issues arc main factors in the learning process in social studies classes.
