Mrs. Emma Seely Head Librarian Recommending And Shelving Books Keeps Librarians Busy Throughout The Day Southeast's library opened in September. 1957. with approximately 5.000 books on the shelves. Five large bulletin boards on the north wall four of which were later replaced by shelving helped decorate the large reading room. But through the years this room became increasingly inadequate and shelving had to be added in the place of tables. Toda the library possesses 33.900 hooks and has add- ed recordings, tapes, and paperback books. In addition to the large reading room, there is a reference area, class- room. magazine area, workroom, and office. Plans are now in process for building a new library in the courtyard to serve as an Instructional Materials Cen- ter. It will include such items as individual study carrels, film and overhead projectors, and microfilm readers. P B X Mrs. Margaret Walters Nurse Miss Jane Wilke Treasurer Office Staff Contributes To Ultimate Success Of Year Maintaining order in the office, the heart of Southeast, is the duty of eight office staff members. Four secretaries are kept busy taking calls and making appointments for the administrators, processing eligibility slips and helping students. To eliminate noise and confusion, the attendance office was moved away from the main office. The attendance clerk keeps track of tardies, absences, and students leaving school during the day for appointments. Sorting student IBM cards (or scheduling, approving student transfers, managing vtcc-pnncipal. during the day for appointments. Keeping the books and paying the bills for clubs and organ- izations is the duty of the treasurer. The registrar keeps detailed records of enrollment and grades of each student. Emergency procedure for illness and injuries of students is taken care of by the nurse. office staff, and helping new teachers occupy much of the time of Mr 0. J Budd. II

Counselors Offer Guidance With Responsive Concern Understanding and patient best describe Southeast's counselors in their everyday dealings with academic and personal problems. They are a source of information for all students interested in finding out more about high school and college education, and vocational training programs. The counselors are also responsible for admin- istering and interpreting annual eollcge and aptitude tests. Because of the ever growing enrollment, the counsel- ing department has doubled in size and importance in the last decade. In 1961 it was separated from the main office and given its own guidance center. Being able to work more independently, the center can better serve the indi- vidual student. Mr. Corwin E. Bare has been the head counselor in the department for ten years.
