Dear Seniors: PROGRESS is rooted in the thinking, vision, and courage of individuals. It is determined not so much by where we are as by the direction we are moving. It emanates from research and work in harmony with God's laws and with the purpose of His creation. Our technological age is characterized by scientific discoveries and applications. New products give birth to new industries that provide employment for thousands. Machines replace unskilled and repetitive workers, Skilled workers are needed to build and operate machines. Each advance- ment in machine production results in more jobs. Democracy progresses when its principles are convictions in the lives of its citizens. Jefferson said, That government is best which governs the least. To avoid the threatening inroads of com- munism, indifference, and confusion, power must be retained on the level of the governed and responsibility on the level of those who govern. Our country can win friends and influence nations by giving unasked and with ioy our surpluses to feed their hungry, clothe their naked, and heal their sick. But let not the giving be for recognition, nor for hidden desire, nor for open military obligation. Then, without being forced, the receivers of our good will will be our country's friends, and no cunning meddlers will change them. Your earth of tomorrow will be exciting, wonderful, and full of new opportunities. You are rich in unused days and years. Time is your greatest wealth. It passes quickly. Use it wisely. Sincerely yours, Harry R. McMillan Principal bmw. Wwmf , ., .. ,f !5!5 , f Qc ' . Q f ' Rasa' lf' Tr' .v'i4W'ysftM'w , 20 8, f Z '.,,,g.rH'f' K A f-Q-vw - 4 . Dear Seniors: One thing is certain: you will make no progress without education. The facts and ideals, the skills and methods which are the tools of thinking must be re-learned and refined by every oncoming generation. lf the progress of mankind is to continue, the rules of society and its moral codes must be re-taught in each age. As an educated American, each of you has the responsibility of helping to create a better life, not only for yourself and your neighbors, but also for the people of other races and nationalities. Now-may we depend on you to do your part, even though it seems to be a small one, starting right here in your own community Sincerely, George R. Powell Vice-Principal
