Regardless of mental capacity or probable des- tiny, each of you through education has had op- portunity to realize your best possibilities. In eight- een years, you have cut across centuries from the lowly status of pre-historic youth to the golden station, glorious hopes, and almost miraculous op- portunities that are yours today. Democracy and our cherished way of life are nourished, but communism and its way of life starve when the masses of people receive education free of partial or prejudiced censorship. Truly, free public education is the foundation and core of de- mocracy. It safeguards the worth of the individual and retains the power of government on the level of the governed.
