128 ADDISON NOEL S WEENEY, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Sweeney, attended the North Caro- lina Boys' State Leadership Confer- ence, which is sponsored annually by the American Legion. lt was held at Wake Forest University dur- ing .luly l98l. He was sponsored by the Southeast Senior High School Student Council. At the conference, one learns to bring out leadership abilities and about gov- ernment. Addison was also this year's re- cipient of the Civitan Award. This award is based on dependability, leadership, scholarship, service, and loyalty. He was selected for this award by the Senior class and the faculty of Southeast Senior High School. ELLEN PHIPPS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, John H. Phipps, Sr., was a l98 I delegate for the Tar Heel Girls' State held at UNC-G during the week of June I4 20 Ellen was sponsored by the Southeast Senior High School Student Council At Girls State she learned about state government and the responsrbrl ities of its leaders Ellen was also this years recrpr ent of the D A R Award given by the Guilford Battle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolu tion This award is based on leader ship dependability character and outstanding service to one s school and community
