Selfless and de- voted, she was there. Even as Freshmen, she made us believe that we were special - that vve could strive and achieve and succeed. lVlrs. lVlcl'3ann taught us what it meant to accomplish something by vvorking together. She was our silent strength and proud rally cry. She, an adult, believed in and respected us. We, in turn, learned to respect, admire and love her. lvlrs. IVlcGann guided us through Thanksgiving rallies, winter carnivals, car washes, magazine drives, lvl S lvl sales. cap and govvn measurements and many other endless high school activities. During all of this, she became our ovvn special friend. lvlrs. lVlcGann, you are and always will be the uniting force, the motivating force, and the vvinning force oe- hind our class. X 5 . ln mid-October, Sl-lS underwent four days of intense scrutiny by a visiting twelve member team of evaluators from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges INEASCJ. Essentially, the four days were spent reviewing how Southbridge l-ligh School stacked up to eleven different NEASC standards such as school philosophy and objectives, and fifteen subject areas such as English and Social Studies. In addition, the evaluators met with staff, questioned students at random, and studied the physical plant of the school. Prior to the arrival of the NEASC team, school administrators and staff went through fifteen months of intense self-evaluation and mountains of paperwork in preparation for the visit. The intent was to be re-accredited by the NEASC - accreditation being considered essential for a community to Keep its educational standards high. Though the final evaluation report was expected to be released in the spring, after this yearboolds last deadline, it was the consensus of all involved that Sl-lS had again passed the evaluation with flying colors. V it to Fl: l-lead Coach Cave DiGregorio, Co-Captains Walter Fuel and Ed Sottile and Coach Peter Holden, l l After tvvo previous winning seasons and a Border Conference Championship in '83, the track team pagan its season with a great deal of optimism. That optimism vvasn't reflected in winning, however, as the sduad compiled a tvvo and five vvon-loss record. First year Coach David DiC3regorio's quote at the end of the season: The 2 - 5 season record was really not indicative of the talent found on this young track team. Although we had some pad breaks during the '84 season, we have the potential to turn that record around in the upcoming year. This Page Compliments of lVlenard's Class. J TENNIS Boys Tennis Coach Jim Kane's main proolem for the '84 season was again inexperience. For the past tvvo years, our male netsters have given their all in effort but come up on the short end of respectable records. Their lack of experience, coupled with playing against stronger opposition, gave them an overall E and 7 record. ignvf 1 , Y' '59lQQ0o0 'v AVL'-.F .,., ' k f'9'.ff5i3fsi 'E' -f lk'-5' 7' .
