Marino. l I I is N r P Though the 1981-82 season ended on a sour note with a loss to arch- rival Bartlett on Thanksgiving Day, the overall 7 and 3 record was again outstanding for our Pioneers considering their tough schedule. The season started off on a positive note with two shutouts over North- bridge and Shepherd Hill followed by a disheartening loss to Hoosac Valley. Then came two more victories over St. Peter's and Auburn before a heartbreaking loss to Division I power Leominster. Our footballers led Leominster for three periods before succumbing in the last quarter. They then rebounded for three successive victories over Bedford, Tan- tasaua and Shrewsbury before the aforementioned loss to Bartlett. ln the Tantasaua game, Scott Vangel was given the Farland MVP Award while Kent Parent received the Girouard Sportsmanship Award. The loss to Bartlett on Thanksgiving Day forced the Pioneers to share the Border Conference Championship with Tantasaua for the second con- secutive year. Sauad members receiving recognition at the end of the season were Telegram 84 Gazette Super Team selections Quarterback and Captain Greg Farland and defensive lineman Calvin Montigny. Running back Scott Vangel was selected to the Honor Team, an honor justly deserved as he amassed close to 1000 yards rushing during the season. When Border Conference All-Stars were selected, the following Pioneers were on the squad: Greg Farland, Calvin Montigny, Scott Vangel, Kent Parent and Jamie Fontaine. -,,-.M,- - -in-sql-. . xv, 4,9-I 1' sf-'ll' 1 , . -Rn -'UQ nv U' -.0 at . - 1 . x U ' . a'1f'l1.
