F in ' 1 'M' Head Coach Don Marino's 16th season was truly a memorable one. Among his team's accomplishments were winning 8 consecutive games en route to an outstanding 8-1-1 record, whipping Tantasqua, and winning the Border Conference Championship by defeating Bartlett on Thanksgiving Day. But the thing most will remember about the '76 season will be the Coach compiling his 100th career football victory in the team's sixth game of the year, 33 - 6 over Athol High School. That win boosted his 16- year total to 100 - 39 - 4, a brillant record that includes two 9 - 0 seasons, two Central Massachusetts titles, a 23-game win streak, several Border Conference Crowns, and many one and two loss seasons. By the end of the season, the Coach had recorded 104 victories! , ..X , IST ROW: Champeau, Brousseau, Wetherbee, Mor- rill, Palmerino, Perez, Kennedy, Austin, Theodoss, Holden, Bonadies and DiGregorio. 2ND ROW: Coach Santilli, Parent, McNamara, Sandman, Peterson, Marino, Montigny, Lazo, Julian, Ciprari, Molina, Gir- ouard, Lees, Santilli, List, and Head Coach Marino. 3RD ROW.' I-rl .FW At the time of his 100th win, Coach Marino was quoted as follows: Winning 100 really doesn't mean anything to me personally because let's face it, I didn't win the games, the kids won them. We have been blessed with hundreds of outstanding boys at SHS. I can't mention all of them, naturally, but I am proud of, them all. Make it 50, or 100, or 200, it doesn't mean much except that it shows we have been successful in what we have tried to do, and this success spills out to the school and other teams and instills pride in our students. The winning attitude has to rub off on the rest of the student body, and this means academically, too. Congratulations, Coach Marino! I 59 After A Disappointing - x 4 S , . x X A h .N .- K - . .. However, in- juries and other problems compound- ed to produce an off year for our Pio- neer hooters. Despite these obstacles, fine per- formances were turned in by Captain Paul Blanchet and underclassmen Fernando Simoes, who led the way in scoring. The defense was anchored by Ray Rivera, Kosta Zikos and Smo- kin' Joe Pena. The team, although off in the over- all standings, was still competitive and enjoyed some fine games. Includ- ed in these were a big win over Bay Path C6 - 21, and a first ever triumph over rival Auburn. KNEELIN G: M. Rousseau, G. Anctil, C. Velez, B. Shanbaum, L. Pena, G. Hernandez, E Reyes, L. How can it be summed up into one word? An experience. But not exactly. It is an anthology of enjoyment, laughter, sorrow, hard work, memories, tears, excitement, patience, dedication, time, enthusi- asm, effort and love. Notquite one word, yet one book filled with every emotion imaginable. There are many people without whom Milestone '77 would be just an ordinary publication. Many thanks to American Yearbook's Don Lendry, Pat Carney and Roger Baughg our photographer Bob Moring Joe Capillo of the Telegram Sc Gazette, Mark LaChance of the Evening News, Mr. Feurer, Mrs. LeClair, and Mr. Flanagan, and the entire staff for their tremendous help. One very special thank-you to Mr. Roland RAV Varin, who was always there with help and understanding. Without Mr. Varin, Miles- tone '77 would not be. One last reminder - this is not only a book for us, it is a book for you. Treasure it, and it will bring you as much pleasure as it has brought us.
