The group was quite active and made several field trips, the most memorable one to the Worcester Music Festival to hear Soprano Beverly Sills. Library Club The library aides play an important role in improving library facilities for student use. Among their many tasks are keeping records, filing books and periodicals and assisting students in the use of the library. They sponsored the all-school play and the National Theatre Company production of Death of a Salesman. The dream finally became a reality this year as the Pioneers rolled over nine straight opponents, shutting out five of them and clinching our first Class A Championship. Under the direction of Coach Donald Marino and led by co-captains jim Lazo and Larry Druckenbrod, the team gathered confidence and a strong reputation early by defeating Northbridge in the jamboree. The Pioneers went on to score 218 points on the season, while holding their opponents to only 56 points. For the seniors, four years of hard work culminated in the Thanksgiving Day victory over arch-rival Bartlett High of Webster. Interest and excitement built up all week in anticipation ofthe finals on Saturday. Marian High of Worcester emerged victorious in the large-school division with a close win over a hard-fighting Holy Name of Worcester. MVP winner, Ellen Cronin of Marian tallied her 1,000th career point during the tourney. In the small school division, St. Mary's of Worcester outclassed Douglas behind the MVP performance of Sue Rojievvicz. Sue broke her ovvn scoring record with a 43-point output in the final game. ln the first game of the tournament, SHS girls lost a 3-point heartbreaker to Nipmuc Regional High of Mendon.
