A Times They Are A-Changing Come gather round people wherever you roam And admit that the waters around you have grown And accept it that soon You'll be drenched to the bone. He was happy, but more important he knew it. Too soon we will all forget. Another laugh, another joke, another source of joy will fill the lifeless vacuum left behind him. But as we think of him from time to time, as surely we will, far better would it be to smile and joke as he would do, to take a lesson from life to find our own contentment, than to slowly shake our heads in sorrow of his passing. 16 Dedication The changing times at Southbridge High School are reflected in the lives of Mrs. Barbara H. Kyrios and Mr. William C. Nickerson. Both have devoted three decades of their lives in assisting our students. For their efforts and devotion, we are greatly indebted to these two fine people. To them we dedicate MILESTONE 1969. Mrs. Barbara H. Kyrios Since 1938, Mrs. Barbara H. Kyrios has been teaching young women the art of homemaking. Besides being actively involved with Glee Clubs and Drama Clubs, she was adviser to the Class of 1952. Mrs. Kyrios' service to the school and community will always be remembered by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. We wish her well in her retirement. Mr. William C. Nickerson For three decades, Mr. William C. Nickerson has devoted his life to the teaching profession. Changing times have not 1- altered his understanding, and sympathetic attitudes toward the students of Southbridge High School. Mr. Nickerson has spent long hours counseling students and was the adviser to the Class of 1951. When he retires this year. he plans to fulfill his lifelong ambition by living by the sea. Our best wishes to him in his retirement. 4 2 ix VHF SENIORS RONALD 1. LEENIEWSK1 qsenror Class Presidentj, Troubadors. Mr. Roger Giroux During our high school years, our lives changed a great deal. On the day of our Freshman Reception we met our class advisers, and during the next four years they aided us in fulfilling all the responsibilities leading up to our Senior Year. As advisers to the Class of '69, Mrl Roger Giroux and Mr. Lucien Manchuk willingly gave their time and eifort to establish us as the Mighty Seniors. We sincerely thank them for their unseliish service throughout these four years. V Time it was, And what a time it Was, It was . . . A time of innocence, A time of confidences. Long ago. . .it must be. .. I have a photograph, Preserve your memories, They're all that's left you. Paul Simon Mr. Lucien Manchuk l T' Superlatlves As time progresses, people change and develop so that various individuals become noted for particular aspects of their personalities. During the last year in high school, Seniors feel that they know each other well enough so that they can select two outstanding people to serve as superlatives according to certain categories. These titles are bestowed in fun but they indicate how the selected individuals are viewed by the other members of their class. ,G fg- L .43 l'-- 13 F , ,Q Gary Lee: Best Dancer 1 We Paul Krasnov: Did Most For The Class Penny Page Frlendllest Most Fun w4 .,,, Class Of 1969 Charles Gaulinz Best Artist Bonnie Benvenuti: Changed Most .J ww? 2 -W : x f 29525, 53 , S 3 , :Q S, N ag.: 1 K 1 N , bww, x , Tom Holden: Flirtg Friendliest U Q Mike Bousquet: Best Athleteg Best Looking 3 55 1 . + EE' f - QQ Gary Misiaszek: Class Clown Bruce Innis: Changed Mostg Most Pessimistic Cay Hutchinson: Quietest ,' 3 -? 3 5 5 4 3 5 R., Marsha Szydlik: Most Optimistic mi Wayne MacDonald: Most Sophisticated f .'3itm.t:, if D v Q' 1 it A 'K Don Barth: Chatterbox E W . The entire junior Class was indebted to the Prom Committee and its advisers and especially to Debbie Boniface and Paul Krasnov who were extremely active and enthusiastic while the groundwork was being laid for the festivities. Lui Football has always been the favorite sport at S.H.S., and the 1968 season was no exception. Characterized by a tough grudging defensive secondary and a rugged offensive unit, the Pioneers played nine line games, winning their first four in succession. However, the team was plagued by a series of injuries which negated what might have been a better season. Mike Bousquet, offensive back, fractured his collarbone one week before the Northbridge Iamboree in a scrimmage with Oxford, and missed the first five games. The Pioneer offense suffered another serious setback when Sophomore quarterback Iim Lazo was injured during the Auburn game and was forced to sit out the rest of the season with a fractured leg. In large part due to these adversities and others, the Pioneers finished the season with four wins and five losses. School, but everywhere. We realize that We must accept more changes in the future and that which seems so permanent now may not seem so in the years to come. By using good judgment, We may change the World for the better and open up a brighter future for all of us. And the present now will later be past, The order is rapidly fading, And the first one now will later be last, For the times they are a-changingf, For their valuable assistance, the yearbook staff is deeply indebted to: The American Yearbook Company, our printersg Mr. Don Lendry, American Yearbook Company representative, Morin Studios, our photographersg Mrs. Mary Anna Tien, Mr. Seaver Rice, Mr. Raymiond Lippeg Mr. Eamest Lippeg the administration, faculty, and student body Whose cooperation made this book possible. 188 ML' ' - , v ,.,, .
