It was during our senior year that we led the exodus of students and teachers from our once separate Cole Trade and Mary E. Wells High school to the unified Southbridge High School. We have spent several ex- citing months in this newly constructed school, but we, as seniors, are not destined to reniain. Another exodus is stirring, one that is more distant. It urges us to venture forth into this age of unrest and to strive to make this world a land of milk and honeya' for those who are to follow. We seniors will determinedly work toward this end. ROBERT BEALS We the class of 1962 gratefully dedicate this yearbook to our class ad- visors, Mr. Robert Young and Mr. Robert Beals, for their kindly guidance on concessions, proms, and other class activities. Through their understand- ing and friendly encouragement, we as a class, have made continued strides throughout our High School careers. In deepest appreciation for their efforts, we hope to maintain the standards they have set for us. 4 . ,+. :Q v ' .p., -'ww . -- , -I - F?-.- iw t'C9 feEf,!l. -Q -.r-71:3 Cr.: A- a.--v-F.--f -557'-J tflmf'-N-lm' f-My mtg-g5Z2Fg-,Qi,sQ.-lr. -' :N af , ui ',.'l'?.'K-' rg'-3' P3 iam! ws X .Wkl N. .'kNrl'1 P O WS l, 951' ' K' ' s ' ..-- t J QQ - - N f-'lxifws if- . ROBERTSON 1904-1962 Throughout our high school career it has been the guid- ing hand of our beloved Principal that has led us down the road of success. His wisdom, kindness and understanding have made Southbridge High School the wonderful edu- cational institution that it is today. His name will remain a hallowed memory at Southbridge High School forever. MR. GEORGE H. BRAIVIAN 1901-1961 Teachers like Mr. Braman have helped to mold students into young men and women. By their guidance and under- standing, students are assured of a successful future. We do not think of Mr. Braman only as a teacher, but also as a kind, wannhearted human being. The entire faculty and student body of Southbridge High School extend their deepest sympathies to his family and relations. K NX ADMINISTRATION FACULTY DR. JAMES M. On January 28, 1962 ten students from Melbourne High School arrived in Southbridge to spend a week. The program enabled us not only to compare the educational systems, which proved to be completely different, but also to acquire an understanding among students from different sections of our nation. Many new and lasting friendships have developed and the students are exceedingly grateful to have been afforded this unforgetable experience. 1, ., at T ,Q I ,agus w , ' G M , , + , fy 1 sl-gf .1 . a ,. Study and preparation for the future have always paid dividends in later years. The academic training you now receive is your preparation for coming battles. Such weapons as English, mathematics, and science will be used constantly to ac- cumulate greater knowledge, to acquire new skills, to earn a living. Much of your success in later life will depend upon how thoroughly you master your present studies. A successful business, too, must prepare itself for whatever changes the future may bring. Here at American Optical Company we constantly study and search for new materials, new designs, new techniques. Through day-to-day learning and new ideas we have kept abreast or ahead of the times in our field. Our very best wishes go with you who are about to assume your new duties and obligations in life. lt is our sincere hope that the future years may hold for you a brimming measure of health and happiness. MC MAHON On June 22, 1962 Southbridge High School will lose one of its best liked and most capable teachers and Athletic Directors in the person of Harry McMahon. Coach McMahon is retiring after 36 years in the Southbridge school system. McMahon came to Southbridge in 1926 after graduating from Holy Cross Col- lege, Worcester, Mass. where he played varsity football as a halfback and a quarterback. In sports his teams were exceedingly successful. His 1928 basketball team won the Western Worcester County League Championship. In 1935 he gave South- bridge its first undefeated football team. McMahon,s greatest accomplishments were in baseball. His record shows that his teams won over 100 games while only losing about 30. Even though Coach McMahon will not be active in sports any longer, his memory will live forever in the hearts of all Southbridge residents. The Class of 1962 wishes him and his family the best of luck in the years to come. 80 ', .1 1'.r.1g. .'.. gn Elf' x 52',?l', , .1 4,1 Lx V xl. I4 .uw X W, Y G., ,J Am J' n I vm 4 1.
